Wien, Vienna

The Steinhofgründe is a serene recreational area on the western outskirts of Vienna, perfect for walks and relaxation. It features rolling meadows, old trees, and peaceful trails, offering stunning views of the city.

The Rosental, a tranquil part of this area, is known for its open green spaces and gentle hills, creating a calm, natural retreat. Together with the nearby historic Otto Wagner Church, the Steinhofgründe provide a unique blend of nature and history close to the city.

The smc PENTAX SOFT 1:2.2 85mm can be a tricky, sometimes even disappointing, lens to use, but if you follow the advice of the instruction leaflet, it can produce images like no other! Pentax recommended that it be used for portrait, still-life, and close-up photography, further, with an extender (tele-converter) and/or extension-tubes. I understand that to mean that it is not intended for landscapes, unless an extender is used. For this image I used the Rear Converter-A 1.4-L.
I'm thrilled with the painterly rendering, the extended depth of field (despite an effective focal length of 120mm combined with a medium aperture) and the lovely "sfumato" effect in the corners and on the edges. I was on the point of posting an SOOC jpg in sepia, when I took a look at the RAW image, which had its own appeal in colour - again I was tempted to post it SOOC. A little cropping, some slight adjustments to "exposure" and colour, and some vignetting resulted in this final image.

Balanced Metropole

Vienna is Metropole with almost 2 mio inhabitans, but despite the size, the city offer also an big diversity of nature. The vienese forrest (with mountains behind, like on the picture), Danube, fields and hills on the east and south, Prater, lot of parks such as Schönbrunn, Augarten, Belvedere etc. The city try to keep balance between nature and infrastrucre and even that to perfection is still lot of things to do, the life here feels good. It feels like this picture.
