There are no words

Today I found something at the thrift store which I didn't know that it existed. It is a folder with 16 pattern-sheets to embroider different items for a home.
All the patterns are from the Oseberg-excavation and this folder is published in 1957 in Norway.
There are no words to express how incredible happy and grateful I am that I found a complete folder with all these precious patterns.

Finished!

Today I finished the Oseberg-project. It all started when I found the book by Sofie Krafft about the Oseberg-excavation.

The patterns are stitched on paper in cross-stitch. On the cover several stitches are used.

On the outside of the cover I replicated helleristninger which I have seen in Sweden and Norway.
On the inside of the cover is the name Audr, an old Norwegian name for a girl which meant prosperity.

A visit to the local historical society gave me another chance to photograph different samples made by Johan Bonde.
Johan Bonde was born 22 October 1834 and he died 1 Februar 1919. He was a weaver and a musician.

A roll of history (detail pictures)

The first UFO of this year is done. This is my second roll of history, the subject is linen so all the parts are taken from pillows and sheets that were used while sleeping.
Each piece is either given to me or bought at a thrift store but all from Denmark. The vintage wooden roll was bought in the Netherlands.
The length of the roll is two meters.

This morning I buttonhole laced a piece of vintage linen with a beautiful old border.

Besides this I read a quote of John Ruskin ( The seven lamps of architecture)

"When we build, let us think that we build forever ... Let is be such work as our descendants will thank us for and that man will say as they look upon the labour and wrought substance of them, See! this our fathers did for us.

In the collage you see Kristine Mandsberg, the textile designer who made the Tid-installation together with Trapholt, and some of her artwork.

Tid

813 people participated, 813 stories about time were told. I wished Trapholt had made a booklet with these stories because it was impossible for me to read all of them while visiting the exhibition. It would have been a timeless memory for me.

On the walls there were a few photos hanging from meetings during the design-process.

Tid

The Tid-exhibition opened last saturday. It was fantastic to see one installation embroidered by 813 people and is 455 meters long. There was a lot to see!

All this was made possible by Trapholt together with Kristine Mandsberg.

Last night another page was pinpricked and a lot of holes are necessary to embroider the next pattern from the Oseberg excavation.
