There are no words

Today I found something at the thrift store which I didn't know that it existed. It is a folder with 16 pattern-sheets to embroider different items for a home.
All the patterns are from the Oseberg-excavation and this folder is published in 1957 in Norway.
There are no words to express how incredible happy and grateful I am that I found a complete folder with all these precious patterns.

Finished!

Today I finished the Oseberg-project. It all started when I found the book by Sofie Krafft about the Oseberg-excavation.

The patterns are stitched on paper in cross-stitch. On the cover several stitches are used.

On the outside of the cover I replicated helleristninger which I have seen in Sweden and Norway.
On the inside of the cover is the name Audr, an old Norwegian name for a girl which meant prosperity.

A roll of history (detail pictures)

The first UFO of this year is done. This is my second roll of history, the subject is linen so all the parts are taken from pillows and sheets that were used while sleeping.
Each piece is either given to me or bought at a thrift store but all from Denmark. The vintage wooden roll was bought in the Netherlands.
The length of the roll is two meters.

Question! by Landanna

Question!

At the thrift store today I came across an unusual find, Pearsall's plaited silk.

Since I have no idea how this was used Mr. Google was the first to ask.
I found out that Pearsall's & Co was founded in 1795 and still exists. These skeins are apparently from around 1940.

The Smithsonian Library has a copy of an embroidery book published by this company from 1909. You can see it here:

The answer to my question on how this was used originally is still wide open. If you happen to know the answer, please let me know. Any other details are also very welcome!

Kind regards Elizabeth

Tid

A few days ago I received the announcement that the catalogue for the Tid-project was available. I had to order it because I wanted to read all the stories behind the words which were embroidered. The book is a gem for me and probably also for a lot of other people who participated. Thank you Trapholt and Kristine Mandsberg for a fantastic project!

This morning I buttonhole laced a piece of vintage linen with a beautiful old border.

Besides this I read a quote of John Ruskin ( The seven lamps of architecture)

"When we build, let us think that we build forever ... Let is be such work as our descendants will thank us for and that man will say as they look upon the labour and wrought substance of them, See! this our fathers did for us.
