Heading just beyond Earlestown station, GB Railfreight loco 60021 'Penyghent' heads towards Liverpool having travelled from the Settle and Carlisle line via Golborne and Lowton Junctions. It travels westbound, hauling the 6F69 loaded aggregates train from Ribblehead Virtual Quarry to Tuebrook Sidings.
Having been in the area to provide assistance to loaded biomass trains out of Liverpool docks, GB Railfreight Class 69 loco 69010 got a rare opportunity to venture away from the Bootle Branch, as it took the helm of one of the aggregate trains to Ashton-in-Makerfield. Here, the loco heads west at Huyton with the 6F65 return empty train, heading back to Tuebrook Sidings.
Whilst locomotive swaps often take place when engines need transferring from Tuebrook Sidings for maintenance, they usually occur during weekends. Here on a sunny Thursday morning, GB Railfreight locos 60026 'Helvellyn' and 60095 'Whernside' approach Huyton as they head light from Tuebrook to Doncaster, where they would head onward to Toton.
With GB Railfreight Class 60s having been cascaded from biomass trains in the Liverpool area to working trains out of Rylstone Quarry, one of the fleet has remained to work on the aggregates trains in and out of Tuebrook Sidings. Heading east through Huyton, 60047 'Scafell Pike' heads towards Prescot hauling the 6F67 loaded train from Tuebrook Sidings to Ashton-in-Makerfield.
