Running around 4 hours late due to industrial action in New South Wales is Journey Beyond Rail’s Indian Pacific service 4SA8 from Sydney’s Central station to Keswick via Clyde yard as Pacific National locomotives NR25/NR86 haul 34 carriages through Korunye on Thursday the 14th of December 2023.
It’s common for the Adelaide to Sydney leg of the Indian Pacific services between December and March to run as a larger consist, requiring the train to be split into thirds at Clyde to fit into Central station. Upon arrival in Adelaide, the consist will be provisioned in preparation for 5AP8’s run to Perth, NR25 will also be provisioned and spun around on the Keswick turntable in order to work the next leg of the IP’s journey solo while NR86 will return to the Adelaide Freight Terminal as a light engine for Intermodal duties.

NR86 and NR74 lead 7BS3, a Pacific National Infrabuild Acacia Ridge to Chullora steel and intermodal train. The train is seen passing over a following Hunter River.
Uniquely paired, NR86 and NR74 respectively wear variants of the Indian Pacific and The Ghan locomotive liveries.
