A worsening severity of weathering-awayness of 1871 was underway in Illinois.

I'm no religioso but I do enjoy casually thinking about old years.

Good 1940. by Tim Kiser

Good 1940.

Good 1940 of art deco numerals.

We are expected to comprehend immediately and subconsciously that "1528" is a street address and "1940" is a year. Is that expectation fair?

Bedford limestone, a/k/a Indiana limestone, is known geologically as the Salem Limestone formation of the Sanders group, formed during the Viséan age of the Mississippian subperiod of the Carboniferous period of the Paleozoic era, ~346.7 to ~330.9 million years ago.

1907 down low. by Tim Kiser

1907 down low.

In my opinion the number 1 is a little too long, and a little too close to the 9, and maybe a little crooked.

Moreover, according to the official documentation of the Moline Downtown Commercial Historic District, the building was completed in 1909. If that's true then 1909 is what the datestone should say!

This was built as the Swedish Olive Lodge #583 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. The I.O.O.F. had a whites-only requirement in its constitution until 1971, which is a good reason to defy societal pressure to feel warmly toward the organization, or nostalgic about its history.

The building is said here to be from 1899 with an addition from circa the 1930s. The shorter portion at the left might be the addition, but I'm not sure.

I saw the cutest awnings when I was downtown today.

Here, sit down and have a cigarette, I'll tell you about them. Can I get you something to drink.

There were two doors side by side, and each one had an awning. The awnings were gray fabric with vertical white stripes, stretched onto a triangular frame so they look like little gables above the doors. They were back in a backalley where hardly anybody ever goes.

Just stand there and look handsome.

In Moline of all places was a HUGE HOTEL from 1922, formerly situated in the bustling center of the city. Now it is an apartment building off by itself, isolated from other buildings by expanses of car parking. Did you ever see so many brown bricks in one place.

There's a 1930. by Tim Kiser

© Tim Kiser, all rights reserved.

There's a 1930.

Its fanciness of Art Deco was surely not intended to mock the suffering and desperation of the innocent victims of the Great Depression, but I guess that's what ended up happening.

Verily here was the Axis Hotel in downtown Moline, opened in 2019 in the Fifth Avenue Building, a/k/a the Fifth Avenue Block, originally an office building. The official documentation of the Moline Downtown Commercial Historic District says the building is from 1930, as does the Rock Island County GIS Public Mapping App. The hotel's website has a page about the history of the building, which says it was built in 1927, even as it shows a series of pictures of the building under construction, dated from December 1929 well into 1930, as if we wouldn't notice the discrepancy. This page prepared by members of the Moline Heritage Preservation Commission says construction didn't begin until 1931, which is contradicted by the pictures on the hotel's website.

But anyway, I have DECIDED TO BELIEVE it was completed in 1930, at least mostly.

In Rock Island Ill., see a brutalist bankbldg of brown bricks, supposedly from 1965.

I'd've guessed it's from the 1970s but I have DECIDED TO TRUST the work of the compilers of the official documentation of the Downtown Rock Island Historic District, wherein the building is designated a "contributing property."

Per Goolg Streetvue, the building's most recent occupant was a branch of American Bank & Trust, which moved to a smaller building across the street sometime after July 2019. Do not forget!
