Rhythmic Justice: Toulouse Courthouse Curves

Walking around the Toulouse Courthouse, I was immediately drawn to the way its curved facade created these fascinating concentric lines. I positioned myself to capture just this section where the pattern of white panels and dark openings creates an almost musical rhythm.
The black and white treatment felt natural for this shot - it strips away distractions and emphasizes the strong contrast between the light surfaces and dark gaps. What interests me about architectural photography is finding these moments where functional design transforms into something visually captivating.
I love how the curves give a sense of movement to something that's completely static. There's something almost hypnotic about following these lines as they sweep across the frame. By framing tightly on just this portion of the building, I wanted to create something more abstract that focuses on pattern and rhythm rather than showing the structure as a whole.

Florin Court Deco

Perspective on the façade of the wonderful Florin Court - a residential building on the eastern side of Charterhouse Square in Smithfield, London, UK.

The building is an example of 'streamline moderne', an international style of Art Deco architecture and design that emerged in the 1930s.

It was built in 1936 by Guy Morgan and Partners and features a beautiful, curved façade with projecting wings, a roof garden, setbacks on the eighth and ninth floor and a basement swimming pool.

Being fans of Agatha Christie and actor David Suchet, we visited because in the LWT television series 'Agatha Christie's Poirot', the building was used as Whitehaven Mansions, the fictional London residence of private detective Hercule Poirot.
