In the heart of Amphipolis, the majestic Lion of Chaeronia statue stands guard, its weathered features reflecting centuries of history under the embrace of ancient trees.
The Lion of Chaironeia is a memorial near the Greek city of Chaironeia to the Thebans who died there in the battle against King Philip II of Macedonia in 338 BCE. The ancient monument was excavated in 1818 and was re-erected in 1902.
