Every step, a little higher

Andrea d’ANDRIA - I Fujenti

High tension, passion and suffering, hope and beliefs, faith and religion, ancestral idolatry, food of the people. In Santa Anastasia, on the slopes of Vesuvius, there is the sanctuary for the adoration of the Blessed Virgin Mary venerated with the title of Madonna dell'Arco, patron saint of farmers and pregnant women, where on Easter Monday the congregations of Campania called "paranze" thousands go in procession to pay homage and pray to the Madonna on the anniversary of the first miracle. The sanctuary governed by the Dominican fathers is one of the major centers of Marian devotion in Campania and houses the image of the Madonna with child who bled prodigiously on 6 April 1450. Devotees to the Madonna are dressed in white "the fujenti" those who run and carry colored bands and banners woven and embroidered with the images and colors of your congregation. Entire families and communities of people from many towns in the region go to the Madonna on foot and often barefoot, walking for one or two days accompanied by musical bands. With great devotion they enter the Sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Arco on their knees to pray, ask for a favor or thank for a receipt.
