The Flickr Frozenscene Image Generatr

The final steps of our long winter walk across Kukkosensaari. With the birch trees of the island slowly fading behind, the traveler ventures onto the vast frozen surface of Pyhäselkä. Each frame captures the quiet determination to move forward, embracing the silence and solitude of the frozen lake. This is not about the destination. it’s about the courage to keep walking into the unknown, one step at a time.

The Manitoulin, en route to Sarnia after delivering a load of wheat in Buffalo, NY, became stuck roughly a mile off the shoreline of the Buffalo Outer Harbor. In recent days, bitterly cold temperatures have caused rapid freezing on Lake Erie, one of the Great Lakes, leaving the lake about 80% covered in ice as of today. To free the vessel, an icebreaker tug was called in from Erie, PA and is currently working to dislodge the freighter.

The Manitoulin is part of a class of freighters engineered to break ice by riding up onto it and crushing it from above, using their specially constructed hulls. While this functionality is common among such ships, witnessing it in action is truly captivating.

It’s a rare event to hear about, much less experience firsthand. The sky briefly calmed from the snowstorm as I launched my drone to capture this moment, only to resume pounding Western New York shortly after.

A scene capture last weekend in Amsterdam. The sculpture, by Peter Erftemeijer, is part of a series, named "drie figuren" (three figures). Not sure the car is part the artwork, but it also appears on the website linked below.

Out around town and found this scene that accurately depicts the weather results over the last week. Everything is covered in a thick layer of ice with snow on top. Although the weather this past week has resulted in a lot of precipitation, there has also been periods, or days even, of beautiful blue skies and even some white puffy clouds like in this photo. Just a typical winter in Middle Tennessee...

Three bracketed photos were taken with a handheld Nikon D5200 and combined with Photomatix to create this HDR image. Additional adjustments were made in Photoshop CS6.
