"Steve hat sein Studio in Miami." erzählt Shashaa weiter. "Er versprach, Miami ist ganz anders als Minneapolis. Niemand würde mich da finden. Aber nicht als Nimco Ahmed. "Such dir einen Namen aus." sagte er.
"Shashaa. Shashaa Dollar." sagte ich. Das hatte ich nämlich geträumt. Er fand den Namen merkwürdig, er meckerte erst, das kann man doch nicht verkaufen. Aber dann meinte er, das ist so crazy, dass es schon wieder gut ist. Und es blieb dabei.
Es ging alles in schwindelerregendem Tempo. Zuerst sang ich Whitney Houston Songs in Hotels und Clubs in Miami. Das Publikum war unglaublich, Standing Ovations und ich musste zum ersten Mal Autogramme geben.
Dann kam Atlanta, Houston, Los Angeles, dann wurde ich zu Pierce Morgan eingeladen, und dann kam "Extasy Love" und Platz 1 in den Billboard Charts, Goldene Schallplatte, Platin…
Als "Extasy Love" überall im TV kam, kriegte ich es schon mit der Angst zu tun. Was, wenn meine Eltern mich im TV sehen? Ich war immer noch nicht 18.
Aber nichts geschah. Steve ist ein Profi, er hat Anwälte und viele Leute, die für ihn arbeiten. Als ich 18 wurde, hatte ich dann auch Zugriff auf meine Konten, unglaublich, wieviel sich da gesammelt hat!
"Your Love Is Like Voodoo" wurde ein noch größerer Hit, und auch "Jaguar" verkaufte sich ganz gut. Aber das Leben spielt manchmal anders, als du willst.
Ich hatte einen Auftritt mit "Jaguar" bei einem Benefiz-Konzert in New York, da entdeckte ich auf einmal Mursal im Publikum. Ich war wie vom Blitz getroffen. Aber dann dachte ich mir, das bilde ich mir vielleicht nur ein. Als ich in der Garderobe war, hörte ich dann lautes Geschrei bei den Securities vom Backstage Bereich, und da wusste ich, es ist Mursal. Ich bin raus und sagte: "Lasst ihn rein! Er ist mein Bruder."
Er wollte Geld. Es war ihm irgendwie peinlich, aber der Vater hat ihn geschickt. Oh, oh! Lange Diskussion, auch Mursal war das klar, wenn der Vater einmal Blut leckt, dann kommt er immer wieder. Ich gab Mursal Geld, aber nur für ihn, sag dem Vater, du kamst nicht rein, du hast eine Nacht bei der N.Y.P.D. in einer ungemütlichen Zelle verbracht…
Kein Wort, wie es den Schwestern und der Mama geht. Männer! Ich hasse sie!
Ich bin dann nach München und hab das Haus in Grünwald gekauft. Nach Deutschland kommt der Vater nicht. Es sind nämlich nur wir Kinder US-Bürger, die Eltern aber nicht.
Natürlich war ich auch viel in den Staaten, und damit das Haus nicht so leer rumsteht, habe ich Ken die Einliegerwohnung vermietet.
Dann kam "Jamaican Queen" und das floppte. Aber das hab ich von Anfang an gewusst. Ich hab allen gesagt: Das bin nicht ich! Das ist falsch. Ich bin Somalierin, Afrikanerin, nicht Jamaica.
Die meinten, das merkt doch keiner und "Mädel, alles was du anfasst wird zu Gold!"
Nee, nee, so läuft das aber nicht. Die sind jetzt alle ziemlich sauer, aber mir ist das wurscht. Ken hat mir gezeigt, ich brauch kein Luxusleben, um happy zu sein. Und wenn ich mein Geld nicht verplempere, dann reicht es noch lange.
Ich mache die Musik, die mir gefällt, und nur so wird es gut. Ich muss auch nicht jedes Jahr einen Hit produzieren.
