Crossrail 186 150 Loppem | 43526 Piacenza - Zeebrugge-Ramskapelle

Loppem Castle

Loppem Castle is a neo-Gothic castle with a moat from the 19th century, located in Loppem (Zedelgem) in the Belgian province of West Flanders. Loppem Castle is the only castle in Belgium whose architecture and interior have been completely preserved in their original state. The castle houses a large art collection (including a stained glass window from around 1460 depicting an anonymous pieta (Flemish Masters in Situ] and is located in a park with ponds and maze. Both the park and the castle are accessible to the public. The castle In 1856, Baron Charles van Caloen and his wife Countess Savina de Gourcy Serainchamps commissioned the construction of a new castle from the English architect Edward Welby Pugin. This task was taken over by Jean Bethune three years later. He gave the castle a Flemish character, within the then prevailing neo-Gothic style
