Both Nord Stream gas pipelines suffered ruptures in September 2022. The first occurred southeast of the Danish island of Bornholm (pictured at the centre of this image), affecting Nord Stream 2, which passes under the Baltic Sea. There were then three further ruptures to the northeast of Bornholm: one affected Nord Stream 2 and two on Nord Stream 1.
This map shows the locations of the four damaged areas, as well as some observation points that recorded levels of methane emitted at the time.
Marine observations included measurements done by an onboard ship system as well as conductivity, temperature and depth (CTD) casts and a SeaExplorer glider.
Land observations were from Hyltemossa, Norunda, Birkenes and Utö stations within the European Integrated Carbon Observation System (ICOS), as well as an atmospheric monitoring location at the Norwegian Institute for Air Research (NILU).
Airborne observations were measured by spectrometer on board a research helicopter (HELiPOD).

Unique and quiet spectacular landforms at three disctint sites in the vicinity of village Berca in the Eastern Carpathians (Buzau County, Romania). These mud volcanoes emerged as a consequence of natural gases escaping through the sedimentary layers of clay and mineralized water and pushing them towards the surface. These gases are cold and consisting mostly of methane so they are resembling the moffeta volcanic vents.

With lower fuel cost and less emissions, many automakers and fleets are turning to compressed natural gas (CNG) as a vehicle fuel. Even though the fuel has been used in this capacity for decades, increasing prices of gasoline and growing concern for the environment has reignited interest. In this video we talk with Kathryn Clay, the executive director of the Drive Natural Gas Initiative, and Stephe Yborra, the director of market development at NGV America, about the growth, development and future of CNG in America.
