Where I live, most driveways are taken up by SUVs, Crossovers and other large vehicles. They all pretty much look alike and most are painted in black, white or gray. So...it's a real pleasure to have a neighbor with an original '64 Chevy. This was the kind of car which was common when I was a kid and its awesome to see one right next door on a daily basis.

I always felt sorry for this 1967 Chevy Camaro sitting on grass about 5 miles from my house. Every time I passed by, it just got rustier. In winters, it was covered with snow and ice. The car never moved an inch in 10 years. Pearl River NY. May 2002. by WAVZ 13

This once extremely cool car just rotted away more and more with each passing season. I always wondered why the owner left it sitting there for at least 10 years.

==> The back story: In 2002, I found my original 1972 Kodak Pocket Instamatic 40 buried deep in a box in the basement, which triggered a quick drive to our local Dollar General to buy a cartridge of Ferrania brand 110 film. On the way home, I snapped a couple of photos of this really sad, forgotten Camaro using the same camera which took hundreds of my 1970s images.

For folks using a device which supports Flickr Notes, I've placed a lot of them on this photo. Each one goes into more detail and most have links to other photos of each place. Enjoy!

I've always thought that the woman with a rather ample derrière trying to open her aging Rambler's door was one of the highlights of this moment in time.

Snow, Snow and MORE snow! This is starting to get really old. One of the snowiest winters in recent memory. Our neighbor's new Chevy Nova SS parked in... well, snow! Taken from my room. Milford, Connecticut. Jan 1968 by WAVZ 13

One of the first photos I took with the Kodak Instamatic 104 camera which Santa kindly left under the Christmas tree a week earlier. It came in the standard yellow box lined with styrofoam and included one cartridge of 126 Kodachrome slide film and precisely one flashcube.

Finally! After years of scrimping and saving, at last I've got my dream car parked in the driveway! I've always wanted a 1964 Chevy Impala modified for drag racing. Got a really sweet deal on it too. Hope it passes New York emissions tests. May 13 2020. by WAVZ 13

I found the interior to be a little smaller and more cramped than I hoped, but it's still a pretty cool car! No rust and very low mileage. All numbers matching.

Welcome to the good old days in New York! An abandoned and vandalized 1958 Chevy Bel Air parked among ever growing piles of uncollected trash. Sorry, no Starbucks or Thai restaurants here. February 1968 by WAVZ 13

(See the Flickr notes posted on the photo for more info).

Although revered by collectors these days, this Chevy was just another stripped and abandoned 10 year old hulk on the streets of Manhattan.

Bashed, burned, stolen and abandoned cars were a fairly common sight well into the early 1990s. Starting in the mid 1960s, New York had begun its long and unstoppable downward spiral as it entered the "malaise era".

Rolling into our local 7-11 store's parking lot, I spotted this vestige of the past. I think it's a 1988 Chevy Caprice. Dented, scratched, rusty and missing body panels. The engine works but sounded pretty rough. Feb. 2020 by WAVZ 13

This was the oldest car I've seen around town in quite a while, so naturally had to take a few snapshots with my cellphone. Based on the paint color, the trunk lid probably came from another car. Note the little teddy bear sitting on the rear shelf as well as the steering wheel cover with a Chevy logo.

I spoke with the owner and he mentioned that it had been in the family for years. The engine is the original 305 Chevy small-block V8.

Just when you think you've seen it all... here's the brand new Grand Central Parkway running through the fresh landfill of Flushing Bay near the site of the 1939 World's Fair. Miles of flat emptiness in all directions. 1935. Queens, New York. by WAVZ 13

As Summ mentions below, note that none of the road and exit signs had been installed yet. I suppose you just had to know where to get on and off through experience.

Shed and vehicles, Benson place by Ted LaBar

Shed and vehicles, Benson place

The photo could have been made the same day as the one of the "Farmhouse, Edgewater." The house stood just to the right of the driveway in this photo. In the shed (later a new chicken house, left, enclosed garage, center, and woodshed, right) stands an old steel-lug tractor. It was a McCormick, either a 10-20 or a 15-30 model. We had both in the early days on this farm. Also in the shed is what may be the school bus Dad drove for Yarnell School. I think the bus may have been red, white and blue.
