I love Ken’s quintessential Mod era look of big, beefy peacoat and turtleneck sweater over those funky patterned trousers. In fact, ‘Play It Cool’ was the very first outfit I got for my first ‘Good-Lookin’ Mod era Ken, all those years ago. I decided to switch up Live Action Ken’s 1970 ‘Play It Cool’ camel peacoat for a classic black one over the rest of that outfit. (Is it a rare variation, you ask? A clever clone copy? It is actually something that my BFF Dean whipped up for me from some surplus black felt he had! I actually prefer the proportions and the button placement of his version.) Mod Hair Ken at the left is wearing the camel ‘Play It Cool’ peacoat over the yellow turtleneck from ‘Bold Gold,’ also from 1970, and those very cool houndstooth wool pants are borrowed from Sindy’s boyfriend, Paul, that were part of an outfit called ‘Motorway Man.’ Talking Brad at the right is wearing ‘The Casual Scene’ from 1971, (often mistakenly called ‘The Sea Scene’ in some guide books and in the 1971 dealer’s catalogue. But everywhere else, and especially on the boxed outfits themselves, it was labelled ‘The Casual Scene.’) Check out those groovy jacquard pants! All three guys are about to make the scene at Barbie’s ‘Café Today’ ... I wonder who they will meet inside?
