High summeriness of rusty dumpsters in an Appalachian landscape.

The brownish oranges of the herbicide areas call to mind the rustinesses of the dumpsters' insides. Don't they!

Comical vernacular architecture of downtown Follansbee, West Virginia.

You might be surprised to learn that the barn-style siding idea was installed in the early 2010s!!!

Yea it was sometime between June 2012 (when this was the "Snooty Pig Cafe") and October 2013 (by which time it was the "Red Barn Eatery").

Here was a bargain direct warehouse of shrunken windows and ornamental brickwork from 1946.

My experience has been that bargain direct warehouses are usually unattractive. This one is maybe less-unattractive-than-most?

A 1901!, comically remodeled. by Tim Kiser

A 1901!, comically remodeled.

All of the upstairs windows got shrunken or removed by ridiculous brick infills. And the first floor got a '60s-'70s-style brick arrangement with phony shutters.

I like it because it is funny-looking. Personally I never felt like I needed for it to keep on looking the same way it did when it was new.

Do you think we should try to make off with that Lexus RX?

Funny-looking house!! by Tim Kiser

Funny-looking house!!

People mock the house by making deadpan observations about its unsightly brickwork: "The parallel irregular jagged diagonal lines of dark and light bricks create an undesirable 'op art' effect."

And: "A 'random'-looking arrangement is difficult to achieve with a 1-to-1 ratio of dark and light bricks. Adjusting that ratio, or adding a third color of brick such as another shade of brown, would have been a more forgiving option."

And: "Gosh it looks like they ran out of darker bricks as they got closer to the top."

Nobody obeys 5 mph speed limits.

If I lived here I'd insist upon having a row of bollards installed in front of the left wall, to prevent cars from crashing into it.

The house was built in 1920 but the bricks idea looks like it's from the 1970s or 1980s probably?
