My dad has collected paperweights for as long as I can remember. In 2005 I drove him up to Appleton, WI for the Paperweight Collectors Association convention so that he (and I) could visit the show floor and meet Peter McDougall, who had a long history with Perthshire Paperweights going back to 1968 and had opened his own studio in Crieff, Scotland in 2002. At some point after that my dad commissioned a custom paperweight with a ruby outer layer cut with facets to reveal a millefiori center. McDougall was interested in that original concept to the point of reserving the right to someday make more.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago when I spotted a similar paperweight for sale from a paperweight dealer on the west coast. It had his personalized cane (PMCD with the year - in this case 2011). Sure enough, he had made at least one more. To me the outer color was not as bold as the one my dad commissioned but it clearly is in the same family. I decided to acquire it so that both of the ones known to us are in our family. McDougall retired in 2012 so this was made towards the end of his career. I will have to look at the original to see what year it was made.
Yesterday’s picture was of some millefiori canes in that paperweight with his personalized one at lower left. In this picture you can see it when viewed large. There was no post-processing but I did intensify the color setting when taking this to bring out the color of the outer layer.
While taking in views at the Simonton St Beach View (Google Maps reference) with a view looking to the southeast across the shoreline to nearby waves coming in and then more distant waters of the Florida Strait. This is located in Key West, Florida. In composing this image, I wanted to get down low near the shoreline and angle my Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera slightly downward, raising the horizon higher into the image. I did this because I wanted to show more of the waves coming in as well as minimize what I felt was more of a negative space with the overcast skies. The rest was centering the ship along the horizon and working an exposure, so that I could bring out more colors for final processing.

I came across a whiptail lizard earlier who appeared to be in the last stage of shedding part of her skin.
The whole shedding process for a whiptail lizard typically takes around 1 to 2 weeks to complete. Lizards usually shed their skin in flakes or pieces. This piece was around her neck, under body and front legs and is 2.54cm/1in long. She left it behind. It's so delicate it broke as I picked it up.
