Sunrise on the Bogue Banks, The southernmost barrier island that comprises the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This island is about 24 miles long and runs southwest to northeast meaning the sun is over the island throughout the day. The vehicles on the beach are surf fisherman who are allowed to drive on parts of the beach from September to April for a fee.

I planned it out that I'd visit this at a time of year and time of day when the sun's rays would be hitting the artwork from the side, thereby emphasizing the roughness of the painted wooden surface. It was a lot of work!
The artist selected the mural's buff-and-black colouration in honour of the colour scheme of New Jersey license plates of the 1960s and 1970s.
