Any Excuse to Visit Biscayne National Park

While on a boat ride with Heritage Of Biscayne Cruise and leaving Boca Chita Key. The setting is looking to the east-northeast across the bay waters in Biscayne National Park. I chose to capture a more leveled-on view with the horizon offering a panoramic setting to the lighthouse and trees. I pulled back on the focal length, so I include the entirety of the lighthouse along with a lot of the blue skies and clouds, which I felt were the perfect backdrop for this setting.

Renovation equipment was on hand at the lighthouse and later used Photoshop to remove that in the image captured.

Two Airplanes in the Skies Above Northern Virginia

While in a parking lot in the Chantilly, Virginia, area that happened to be lined up with airplanes landing at Washington Dulles Airport. The view is looking to the east-northeast to a United Airlines airplane getting ready to land. But what really drew me into this image was the second airplane far off in the distance. It was as if the planes were stacked up and coming in one after the other, maybe a minute apart.

Outings in Mount Mitchell State Park (Black & White)

A setting looking to the east-northeast to ridges and peaks of the Black Mountains and then more distant one of the N NC Blue Ridge Crest. This was while walking around the summit area for Mount Mitchell in the namesake state park.

I later did a conversion to black & white using DxO PhotoLab 7 where I made some adjustments to color filters to bring out a much richer tonal contrast for the final image.

Doing Things I Won't Forget!

A setting looking to the east-northeast while taking in views along a hike of the Black Butte Trail in Shasta–Trinity National Forest.

This was an idea I got from an Instagram post a few weeks back. This person had captured an image of herself with some high heels on inside a car. I liked the idea of that, but I wanted to capture an image that was more in my style with mountains all around while hiking. I chose the backdrop of Mount Shasta for my take on that image.

Life in Great Smoky Mountains National Park

A setting looking to the east-northeast while taking in views at a roadside pullout along the main park loop road in the Cades Cove area of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. While I did capture a few images at this location, I attempted to focus pressing the shutter release when the bears might be looking up or moving with a look for an image to capture. Here one of the cubs happened to be looking in my general direction as it climbed over this fallen tree.

The Sun is Rising, and I Am Flying West by thor_mark 

The Sun is Rising, and I Am Flying West

An airplane window view looking to the east-northeast while on an American Airlines flight from Austin to Phoenix Most of the flight was in the early morning hours before the sun had risen, but I had been keeping a watchful eye for any brightness to indicate a sunrise. Finally, while flying over Arizona, I caught this setting and angled my Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera to capture it. The composition of the image was somewhat limited, given the location of the sun, the direction of the flight, and minimizing any framing from the window edges. But I was able to work with the airplane wing in getting a look across it to the rising sun.

I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation in DxO PhotoLab 8. I then exported a TIFF image to Nik Color Efex Pro 7 where I added a Polarization and Pro Contrast filter for that last effect on the image captured.

Film X Effects at Bryce Canyon National Park

An idea I got from a Flickr discussion on using Nik filters to create a certain look (www.flickr.com/groups/niksoftware/discuss/72157636332119723/). I tried out one of the ideas and saved it as a recipe to use with Color Efex Pro 5. I could initially make adjustments with the NEF/RAW image captured in DxO PhotoLab 5 but could then create something afterwards with that slightly off color look. Nik Analog Efex Pro 2 can also create something similar. The original image captured was an in-camera HDR TIFF.

It Looks To Be an Exciting Day in Bryce Canyon National Park!

A setting looking to the east-northeast while taking in views across hoodoos and other eroded formations present in Bryce Canyon National Park. This view is located at Sunset Point and just around sunrise. My thought on composing the image was to time an image captured around the point of sunrise, but some low clouds were present to minimize that look. I chose to work with HDR Efex Pro 2 to better bring that complete color setting in the image. I later exported a TIFF image to DxO PhotoLab 5 where I did some final adjustments with contrast, saturation and brightness for the final image.

Chasing the Light of a New Day (Bryce Canyon National Park)

While at Sunset Point, taking in a morning sunrise in Bryce Canyon National Park. The view is looking to the east-northeast and across the hoodoos and eroded formations. To compose this setting, I brought the horizon a little bit higher into the image, so that I could create more of a sweeping view leading up to the point with the sunrise. I also used the in-camera HDR setting so that I could attempt to capture more of the dynamic range. The rest was later making adjustments with control points in DxO PhotoLab 5 to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

Bryce Canyon National Park Still in Shadows Before the Sunrise

A setting looking to the east-northeast while taking in views across hoodoos and other eroded formations present at Sunset Point in Bryce Canyon National Park. My thought on composing this image was to have a sweeping view across the setting to my front. It was as I worked with DxO PhotoLab 5 that I decided to keep more of the landscape in kind of a silhouette or shadows to bring more of a focus to the sunrise and also that one contrail high in the skies above.

More of a silhouette look by making the foreground so dark. The original image captured was an in-camera HDR TIFF.

Rising High Above (Pinnacles National Park)

A setting looking to the east-northeast while taking in views across eroded volcanic formations present in the High Peaks in this part of Pinnacles National Park. I captured this image while I was hiking the Juniper Canyon Loop. I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation while playing around as I learned how to work with DxO PhotoLab 6. I then exported a TIFF image to Nik Color Efex Pro 5 where I added a Polarization, Foliage, and Pro Contrast filter for that last effect on the image captured.

One Day in Yosemite National Park Just Isn’t Enough! (HDR)

A setting looking to the east-northeast while taking in views across the forested Yosemite Valley at Tunnel View in Yosemite National Park. I chose to work with Aurora HDR Pro to bring that complete setting in the image. I later exported a TIFF image to DxO PhotoLab 5 where I did some final adjustments with contrast, saturation and brightness for the final image.

It's Always a Good Time for a Walk in Pinnacles National Park

A setting looking to the east-northeast while taking in views down a hillside of the pinnacle formations present below. This was while walking the High Peaks Trail in Pinnacles National Park. The outline of the Condor Gulch Trail is located going across the image center.

Road Beyond the Cattle Guard

A setting looking to the east-northeast while taking in views across the high desert setting in this northern New Mexico location and looking down the county road. This is just inside the Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness Area entrance and sign. With this image, I wanted a leveled-on, balanced view with the horizon and the road look ahead. I decided to include the cattle guard as I felt it added a little bit of foreground interest to the image.

A Bridge to Cross in Banff National Park

While walking around the Castle Mountain Viewpoint with a view looking to the east=northeast to a bridge crossing of the Bow River. This is in Banff National Park. With no traffic present then, I used that time to line myself up to compose a leveled-on view with the bridge crossing. I worked to get a good focal length to include some of the nearby trees and mountainside as a backdrop.
