Spring Powder Skiing at Alta

Technically it might be spring but you wouldn't know that from conditions in the Utah mountains right now. We had just under two feet of snow at Alta on Sunday and it hasn't quit yet, this week. This is pro skier Julian Carr at Alta on Sunday. The storm overproduced, and we had faceshots all day long.

The John O’Daniel Exchange Building was constructed around 1910 to house a hosiery mill. The building was acquired in 1919 by Julian Carr who named the John O’ Daniel Hosiery Mill after John O’ Daniel an African-American born enslaved who had worked for Carr and recently died. The mill eventually failed. The building was offered to a cooperative farmers group to use as a farmers exchange where agriculture products could be sold directly to the public and surplus could be shipped to remote markets. The Farmer’s Exchange operated into the 1980s. Following the closing of the exchange, the building was vacant until the late 1990s when it was converted into a nightclub. The club last a short period before a fire closed the business. The building stood abandoned until it was purchased in 2007 and renovation was started. The building reopened as an office space and space for special events.

Whatever was at this spot was gas lit. You can still see the old copper gas line sticking out in the center. Lizzie is looking at Julian Carr's plot.
