The males have much longer antennae (horns) pretty eyes and lots of golden bristles. They also have a white patch on their forehead. I don't see them near as often as the females.

Pretty Little Native Bee On My Flowers

Check out her eye, amazing! I've noticed that this species of longhorned bee is attracted to purple flowers. She has pretty golden hairs on her hind legs that collect tiny pollen particles that sparkle in the sunshine as she feeds on the nectar.

Sleeping bees

I ran across four of these bees going to "sleep" in my back yard. These two were cooperative.

Why I love that 180mm macro. Here you can just see the bees and I pulled up an image to review on the LCD screen.

Third Kind Of Bee On These Sunflowers

Went on a little nature walk with my daughter & 2 of my grandkids. The thirteenth thing we saw was a cute little longhorn bee on another sunflower. It was amazing how many bees were attracted to those sunflowers. This guy is totally covered in pollen, a pollination superstar.

Busy Bees Getting Busy by Kaptured by Kala

Busy Bees Getting Busy

First time I've gotten a shot like this. My neighbor has a flowerbed with blue salvia and lambs-ear. Both are blooming right now & there are tons of bees. It is a bit overwhelming so I just aim at the flowers and take a lot of clicks hoping for some keepers. I had no idea there were 2 bees in this shot until processing. The males have much longer antennae (longhorns) than the females. Both have amazing blue eyes.

Beautiful Bee

I found one of the prettiest native bees I've ever seen on my neighbor's blue salvia. I've seen a lot of longhorn bees but never one with so much white. Busy little bee; took a lot of patience & sweat to get a few decent shots, but worth it.

Purple Flowers Have The Sweetest Nectar

The two-spotted longhorn bees have discovered another purple flower in my yard. Got a shot of one enjoying the dainty flowers of my Russian sage.

Purple Flowers & Long Horned Bee

I seem to end up with at least one purple colored container plant every summer. I've noticed that everytime, I attract these long-horned bees that only like the purple flowers. This year it happened again.
