In St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery Church in the Vienna Central Cemetery

The church was built between 1908 and 1910 according to plans by the architect Max Hegele. The architectural and artistic design of the church can be attributed to Art Nouveau, but it also features historicist elements.

Ehrengrab am Wiener Zentralfriedhof
Grave of Honour at Vienna Central Cemetery

"It was near the grave of Beethoven, whom he had admired all his life, that Schubert was buried at his own request, in the village cemetery of Währing on the edge of the Vienna Woods. [...] In 1888, both Schubert's and Beethoven's graves were moved to the Zentralfriedhof where they can now be found next to those of Johann Strauss II and Johannes Brahms." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franz_Schubert

Altsimmeringer Pfarrkirche St. Laurenz

The parish church of the formerly independent municipality of Simmering. In 1892 it became part of the 11th district of Vienna of the same name together with the likewise until then independent municipality of Kaiserobersdorf.

The parish church is one of the oldest churches on the territory of present-day Vienna. The current late Baroque building was erected between 1746 and 1747.

Simmering Cowboy

This passerby's heart's desire had been to be photographed together with the cow standing in front of this Viennese cuisine restaurant in Simmering, the 11th district of Vienna. I gladly did him the favor.

Gasometer A by Wolfgang Bazer

Gasometer A

"The interior of Gasometer A bears the signature of the French star architect Jean Nouvel: a light and airy construction of glass and reflecting steel. The living and office area, divided into nine bay windows at a height of 30 metres, captures the sunlight perfectly." www.gasometer.at/de/architektur/die-gebaeude/gasometer-a

Underneath there is a three-storey local shopping centre, which of course includes a branch of the omnipresent stationery chain Libro, whose employees stand out for their complete incompetence.

Gasometer und Fiaker

Wien ist anders.
Vienna is different.

"The Vienna Gasometers are four gasholder houses, built as part of the municipal gas works (Gaswerk Simmering) in Vienna, Austria, from 1896 to 1899. They are located in the 11th district, Simmering. They were used from 1899 to 1984 to house gas holders, also known as gasometers, each of 90,000 m³ (3 million cu. ft.) storage capacity. After the changeover from town gas to natural gas between 1969 and 1978, they were no longer used and were shut down. Only the brick exterior walls were preserved. The structures have found new residential and commercial use in modern times." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vienna_Gasometers

Gasometer-City

On the right you can see a part of two of the four former gasometers in Simmering, Vienna's 3rd district. They were revitalized in an extensive reconstruction from 1999 to 2001, leaving only the facades unchanged, and now feature an entertainment center, several apartments, a students' hostel and an event hall.

Since the concept of a shopping mall did not prove successful, a transformation into the largest Music City in Central Europe took place by 2013. At its center are music schools and stores, including the Vienna Pop Academy, where young people are trained to become pop musicians in their free time, the Jam Music Lab, a jazz-pop conservatory for budding professional musicians. A concert hall offers the possibility of on-site performances.

Gasometer

"The gasometers in Vienna-Simmering are four former gas tanks from 1896 preserved in the facade." Here you can see two of them. As part of the Gaswerk Simmering, they were in operation from 1899 to 1975. "They were revitalized in an extensive reconstruction from 1999 to 2001 and now feature an entertainment center, quite a few apartments, a students' hostel and an event hall." de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gasometer_(Wien)

Simmering is the 11th district of Vienna. The gasometers are located directly at the border to the 3rd district, Landstraße. My shooting point is here in the 3rd district.

FRISEUR TATAR + OPEN STUDIO

During my photo walk today through my home district of Favoriten, the 10th district of Vienna, I finally arrived in the neighbouring district of Simmering, the 11th district. Here you can see a men's and children's hairdresser's and a so-called studio. In Vienna, a "studio" is a small brothel. There are hundreds of such studios in the city.
