WCRC 47772 'Carnforth TMD' heads home travelling through Thetford Forest at Croxton on Sunday 2nd April 2023. The maroon 'Duff'' heads westbound on the long journey to Cumbria after the stock and 47804 were used alongside 'Black Five' 44932 on a rail tour to Stratford-upon-Avon the previous day. The Class 47 wouldn't lead for much longer after failing near Ely and being pushed to Peterborough by 47804.
National Travel (West) took delivery of the NBC's first Neoplan / Plaxton 4000 in May 1984, and put it straight into service on Spanish shuttle trips on behalf of ACT Holidays. I know hindsight is a wonderful thing, but that really doesn't look like a good idea with one of these notoriously self-combusting machines ! And the Merceds-engined examples, of which this was one, were far more prone to catching fire.
They got rid of it in 1987, and there was hardly an area of Britain that it wasn't based in at some point during its long life. Like the Lofty's Astron, it made it all the way to 2008, although probably with many spells of being parked up, but it was definitely scrapped then.
