It took them until almost 9 PM that night to hit the Terminal District, I felt bad for the crew.
Brand new Norfolk Southern 8098, a GE ES44AC built just four months rior to this photograph being made, asses the original Norfolk Southern shortline 1616, a Baldwin AS416 built in 1955 and now a museum piece at the Norfolk Carolina Transportation Museum. She was being used as a prop for the NS Heritage Family Get Together in July 2012.

Aside from the new units painted in Heritage paint schemes, there were also some actual heritage units in Spencer, North Carolina back in July 2012. All three locomotives were built in the 1950s. The two Norfolk & Western motors still run while the Norfolk Southern #1616 is solely on display.
After three long years, I was finally able to shoot 8114, “The Original Norfolk Southern” Heritage Unit. I was either working when it was coming through or it came through at night. I’m glad I was finally able to grab it.
With ominous rain clouds hovering above, NS 352 runs along Crossover Road at Sadler on the Danville District. 352 is a daily manifest that operates between Portsmouth, OH and Linwood, NC.

NS 8114 leads a slow running NS 377 enroute to Chattanooga, Tennessee due to numerous slow orders with the NS 8114 "Norfolk Southern" heritage leading.
With the downturn of the economy due to the "stupid bug", Norfolk Southern has decided to shutter Linwood Yard, meaning this is the last of the NS 153 freights, for the time being, that will run from Linwood to Birmingham. On the head end of the train is a pair of heritage units: NS 8114 (Norfolk Southern) and 8105 (interstate) bracketing a NS ET44AC.
