American Goldfinch

A back section of Shelby Farms Park has numerous private garden areas where individuals grow anything from corn to tomatoes to squash and more. The Goldfinches were out in force eating sunflower seeds. This one seemed at ease on a sunflower plant, while I was only a few feet away.

While walking the boardwalk at the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge, I spotted this woman and her Jack Russell companion paddling by. I was amazed watching the little guy intently watching the water for whatever might come his way.

Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicencis) Immature Staredown

This Red-tailed Hawk is a regular at the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge near DuPont, WA. He seems tolerant of people and allows them to come fairly close before leaving. As you can see from the series of shots, he's quite a beauty!
