On our birdwatching trip on Jæren today, I just saw my first swallows of the year.
First two sand martins (Riparia riparia) like these from last year (sandsvaler in Norwegian), and then two barn swallows (låvesvaler in Norwegian).

A white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) that I met on the island I'm from two weeks ago.
Normally I photogram them like this from a boat, but here it came close to the road together with seagulls and herons for some fish guts in a bay.
It is an almost six years old female, ringed in Øygarden close to Bergen as a chick, and called N7 O8. It was fun the get a call from the excited ringer after registering it, who got to see how it now loos as an adult ツ

Common guillemots (Uria aalge) in their summer plumage, from Easter break on the island I'm from one year ago.
This year have been abnormal- I haven't seen them at all yet. Normally I see them both at sea in our neighbourhood and on Jæren during winter and spring (but I know others have found some there lately).
None came ashore after a storm either, like they use to- although that is not a nice way to see them. I hope that they don't struggle too much. The northern gannets (havsule in Norwegian) have been very few as well.
The common guillemot to the right here, is a bridled form of guillemot - with a white eye ring and a thin white line behind the eye.
On other photos, they cuddled and scratched each other for some time. Adorable!

I finally met the marsh tit (Poecile palustris) for the first time (at least after starting photographing and registering birds), while visiting my parents on the island I'm from two weeks ago.
I think I have seen them when I was younger, since they are more common where I grew up. But they are rare where I live now, and I already had decided that this had to be the year that I had to find them and get them on my list and camera. But I didn't know it would happen already on my first visit home this year.
It was a regular visitor at a bird feeding station in a garden where I was allowed to go to take pictures.
It looks very similar to it's cousin, the willow tit (granmeis in Norwegian) that I posted yesterday. But I clearly see the differences after photographing hundreds of willow tits before meeting this marsh tit.
And it was interesting that there were no willow tits by these feeders, like I am used to both on that island and where I live now.
Unlike the willow tit that breeds all over Norway, the marsh tit only breeds in the lowlands in the south and north to Trøndelag. It is sparsely found in Nordland and inner parts of Eastern Norway.
It can also be found throughout temperate Europe and northern Asia.

A white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) on the island I'm from.
It was ringed in a nest in Solund in Sogn, and got the name 1108. It was 13 years old on ths photo.

Today has been a beautiful winter's day, and I have photographed many special birds in the snow.
I went with a friend to photograph some stunning shore larks for the first time (fjellerker in Norwegian), that visit Jæren now. We also found several other birds that I haven't photographed in the snow before.
I rarely take the time to load photos to my Mac before the card is full, which it wasn't today, but you can find screenshots from today in my stories on Facebook and Instagram for 21 more hours.
But I have edited a pretty new coal tit (Periparus ater) in the snow instead, by my parents' feeders in November.
I look forward to a new beautiful day among birds in the snow on my birthday tomorrow, before the rain will come next week.

A female Eurasian blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla) in a friend's garden on the island I'm from. (The male has a black cap.)
Although she lives close to my parents, they have very different bird species coming to their feeders, and it's nice to find those I don't photograph that often at her place.
It was the only day before Christmas that we had snow last year, but sadly it had melted off the trees here.
