The Flickr Mæland Image Generatr

Today has been a beautiful winter's day, and I have photographed many special birds in the snow.

I went with a friend to photograph some stunning shore larks for the first time (fjellerker in Norwegian), that visit Jæren now. We also found several other birds that I haven't photographed in the snow before.

I rarely take the time to load photos to my Mac before the card is full, which it wasn't today, but you can find screenshots from today in my stories on Facebook and Instagram for 21 more hours.

But I have edited a pretty new coal tit (Periparus ater) in the snow instead, by my parents' feeders in November.

I look forward to a new beautiful day among birds in the snow on my birthday tomorrow, before the rain will come next week.

A female Eurasian blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla) in a friend's garden on the island I'm from. (The male has a black cap.)

Although she lives close to my parents, they have very different bird species coming to their feeders, and it's nice to find those I don't photograph that often at her place.

It was the only day before Christmas that we had snow last year, but sadly it had melted off the trees here.

Like many other expectant children, my niece and nephew here started their Christmas holiday from school today.

A nice memory from three weeks ago, together with my niece and nephew.

This weeekend is filled with rain, but Christmas is coming anyway.

I've had a great weekend in Stavanger with a dear friend, with a little Christmas shopping and lots of delicious food and drinks.

From a memorable night close to my parents' house last year.

We could see the Northern lights bettter than normal here in southern Norway that night, and I watched it for at least 3 hours.

Now it's exactly two weeks until Christmas Eve, when my niece and nephew here will eat delicious food and open their Christmas gifts. They are really excited, as every kid (and many adults as well).

This photo is from the only snow day we have had in western Norway so far this winter, 2.5 weeks ago.

I went together with my sister, niece and nephew to visit our parents that weekend, and we enjoyed ourselves in the snow and took some Christmas card photos as well

A European robin (Erithacus rubecula) on the only snow day we have had here in western Norway this winter, two weeks ago.

Now I am on my way to spend the whole day in the concert hall in Stavanger, to sing on a Christmas concert together with several known Norwegian artists.

As I wrote on the sand martin family upload last weekend - this past summer I photographed families of all three Norwegian swallow species on the island I'm from.

This barn swallow family (Hirundo rustica) stayed outside my parents' neighbours' house.

The two parents fed their six young ones one by one, who were able to fly already.

There were also more barn swallows there, flying and hunting insects in a fascinating repeating pattern along the ground. You often need to find their pattern or have them sitting still to get usable photos of these fast birds.

Some nice colours from this summer, when I had a long and realxing vacation, visiting my parents where I grew up. (And the colour that has filled our day in a two year old girl's birthday party today.)

I took many macros on places filled with childhood memories - like this herb-Robert (Geranium robertianum) in my late grandparents' garden.

It is a common species of cranesbill native to Europe and parts of Asia, North Africa, and parts of North America.

Today (Aug 15) is my niece Alexandra's day! She turns 8, and has her second day in 3rd grade. I look forward to her family birthday party on Saturday ♡

Her little brother Adrian, who turned 6 two weeks ago, had his very first day at school yesterday. It will be fun to hear him tell about it on Saturday ツ I love them both so much!

Today my adorable, wise, loving and fun nephew Adrian, to the right, turns 6 years old ♡

In a couple of weeks he starts school as well. How time flies!

But I've made him promise that he will always be aunt's little boy, and give hugs and kisses on the cheek no matter how old he gets 😉

We have already celebrated him, and today he enjoys himself on the cottage together with his parents, sister and all grandparents.

Common daisies (Bellis perennis) on my parents' lawn.

Today the July rain is back, after some nice days.

It's actually a bit good, as I need to finish more confirmand portraits instead of wanting to go out to enjoy nature and take more summer photos.

The weather will be nice again for the weekend, so I look forward to enjoy ourselves again then.

I can't believe that I just witnessed another chick die on my parents' lawn today..

This time it was a young European robin (Erithacus rubecula), that had followed my parents for some time while working in the garden. (The young robin on the photo is from their garden another summer.)

It threw its head backwards and gasped over and over, as if it could not breathe, and it almost couldn't make a sound.

When I came to watch it, it ran towards me and started 'sneezing' as well. Then it jumped completely around a couple of times, and then it was dead.. I could hear its poor parents in the trees behind it.

As I mentioned in my last upload, a song thrush chick was killed as well on the lawn this morning, by the neighbour's cat..

Let's hope the rest of the garden birds up here get to live as long as they should

After visiting some friends in Os for some lovely and warm days now, both relaxing together on their nice terrace with a lovely view, eating delicious food and taking their family and confirmand photos, I went to visit my parents as well from last night.

I've spent the sunny morning in their big garden, finding 20 bird species and 6 butterfly species by now. I also got some nice bee in flight photos.

Last autumn I had a fun photo shoot with two of my darlings- my sister's kids, while spending the autumn break together at my parents' place.

I have used the photos as framed gifts for my parents' and sister's recent and upcoming birthdays. I just love those photos, where they walk towards me, hug up close and smile at each other. But they are only for those who know them to see.

But I also took some like this one to show you the nice surroundings and mood on the photos ツ We also had some rain and sunshine at the same time, which gave some magical light.

When I started photographing and registering smaller birds in 2020, there were so many species that turned up in front of me that I hadn't realized existed before.

Those first encounters and photos, like this one of the lesser whitethroat (Curruca curruca/Sylvia curruca), always bring a good feeling.

It showed up after I helped a blackbird that was stuck in a net around a red currant bush in my parents' neighbour's garden. (There's a red currant to the left.)
