Toton (18A) shed's Stanier 8F 2-8-0 48196 in charge of a Class H "through freight" approaching Kings Norton, Birmingham - c.1957.
Malcolm Peakman tells me:
"Kings Norton had a large expanse of carriage sidings and in the left background of this shot you can just see them in the distance beyond the Midland style signal box. The brick cottage, just visible on the extreme left, is the former crossing keeper's dwelling provided for the custodian of the level crossing which was abolished when the new station was built. At the time Station road was closed and a wide footbridge was provided as the ground was too steep to allow a road bridge to be built."
This picture was captured from the footbridge mentioned in Malcolm's information.
