The Clock House

This is a house known as The Clock House and is situated on Barmouth Estuary in Wales. It was one of those days weather-wise: the forecast was for a lovely mild and calm morning but instead it was windy and very cold. Then we had a bluebird sky - not even one cloud. A little while later it was 100 per cent cloud. However while we were walking across Barmouth Bridge later on in the day the sky cleared slightly allowing us to get this shot with the 100-400mm lens.

Coes Faen

The Clock Tower and The Sleeping Giant, Barmouth .

Barmouth (Welsh: Abermaw (formal); Y Bermo (colloquial)) is a town in the county of Gwynedd, north-western Wales, lying on the estuary of the River Mawddach and Cardigan Bay. The English form of the name is derived from "Aber" (estuary) and the river's name "Mawddach"

Coes Faen or as it is known The Clock Tower is a landmark in the Mawddach estuary, Barmouth North West Wales. It is sited on a natural projection into the estuary, some 300m to the east of Barmouth railway bridge. It is an eclectic Victorian Gothic house built of stone under a slate roof. Built by the Lowe family, mill-owners, the main section dates from c.1844, to which additions including the striking clock tower were added c.1890-1900.

I was told that at one time it was used as a court house, and that a tunnel run under the road (A496) to the cells opposite.
