Sigiriya or Lion's Rock (Taken in 2017 on tour of Sri Lanka). Long lost fortress citadel and home of the palace of King Kashyapa AD 477 -495. You can make out the 1,200 steps cut into the granite cliff face. It is a steep climb but you are rewarded with views of the ancient formal gardens below.
The palace was abandoned after the King's death and became a Buddhist monastery until the fourteenth century.
