The Flickr Haukefugler Image Generatr

It's ten months since the last time I photographed golden eagles (Aquila chrysaetos) from hides (and all the crows, ravens and jays surrounding them).

Now I am on my way to southern Norway, to spend a day together with them again tomorrow. A nice way to end the year!

A golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) in the snow ten months ago.

White-backed vultures (Gyps africanus) in Kenya last year. We saw several vulture species there both last year and last month.

I think I got better photos of these ones this year, but I haven't checked them out yet.

I photographed at least 5 eagle species in Masai Mara last summer, of very different appearances - from brown to very white, to colourful, to this one.

This is the martial eagle (Polemaetus bellicosus) - Africa's largest eagle with a wingspan that stretches up to 2.6 m (bigger than our largest white-tailed eagle in Norway).

It is is one of the world's most powerful avian predators. Due to both its underside spotting and ferocious efficiency as a predator it is sometimes nicknamed "the leopard of the air".

In its common, scientific and most regional African names, its name means "war-like" and indicates the force, brashness and indefatigable nature of their hunting habits.

After 1.5 months of treatment by the Norwegian Wildlife Hospital, this young golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) that I photographed on its first day of treatment, finally was released into the wild two days ago. It has permanent damage to one eye, but I hope it will do well.

Another photo of the young golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) that still is under treatment by the Norwegian Wildlife Hospital.

It was found on Jæren, and needed to get treatment for its left eye.

Even though it's sad when birds and animals are injured, it is always special to get the chance to meet a raptor this close, and gratifying that there are vets who spend their spare time saving them.

A young white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla), photographed from a hide in February.

We had three of them, and two golden eagles (kongeørn in Norwegian) around the hide all day. A great experience!

A golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), photographed from a hide I visited several times in February.

It was found on Jæren, and needed to get treatment for its left eye.

During February I spent four days in different hides, photographing golden eagles (Aquila chrysaetos).

I got many nice photos of single eagles and other birds around them, but I also hoped that the other eagles would come to fight. That only happened this one time, in the last hide I visited.

It was a pity that they hid like this, but maybe I'll get better ones next season.

In Norway, we call the golden eagle "king eagle" (kongeørn).

It was awesome getting this close to two young beauties in my own municipality two weeks ago.

Hauk og flue

Yesterday I was lucky to spend the whole day among two golden eagles and three white-tailed eagles. When we didn't have them up close, they were still around- sitting on the surrounding rocks and mountains, or flying around us.

Even though I have photographed many eagles lately, yesterday was special since it was the first time getting them this close in the municipality in which I live.

This is a young golden eagle in its first winter. You can see it on the defined white patches at the base of the tail and in the wings.

The first of three golden eagles that came outside our hide yesterday in the twilight. This one was a bit brighter than the others.

We had a very cute squirrel dressed in snow right outside at the same time, so it was almost hard to choose who to photograph when ツ
