It's ten months since the last time I photographed golden eagles (Aquila chrysaetos) from hides (and all the crows, ravens and jays surrounding them).
Now I am on my way to southern Norway, to spend a day together with them again tomorrow. A nice way to end the year!

A young white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla), photographed from a hide in February.
We had three of them, and two golden eagles (kongeørn in Norwegian) around the hide all day. A great experience!

Until last weekend I had only seen and photographed the beautiful hawfinch (Coccothraustes coccothraustes) once, two years ago.
So when a new acquaintance invited me to come and photograph the birds by his feeder, including up to seven hawfinches, I was quick to go...two days in a row last weekend 😉
I love getting to know so many nice people so often, through the bird and photography interest!

During February I spent four days in different hides, photographing golden eagles (Aquila chrysaetos).
I got many nice photos of single eagles and other birds around them, but I also hoped that the other eagles would come to fight. That only happened this one time, in the last hide I visited.
It was a pity that they hid like this, but maybe I'll get better ones next season.

In Norway, we call the golden eagle "king eagle" (kongeørn).
It was awesome getting this close to two young beauties in my own municipality two weeks ago.

Yesterday I was lucky to spend the whole day among two golden eagles and three white-tailed eagles. When we didn't have them up close, they were still around- sitting on the surrounding rocks and mountains, or flying around us.
Even though I have photographed many eagles lately, yesterday was special since it was the first time getting them this close in the municipality in which I live.
This is a young golden eagle in its first winter. You can see it on the defined white patches at the base of the tail and in the wings.

The first of three golden eagles that came outside our hide yesterday in the twilight. This one was a bit brighter than the others.

What a beautiful day today! I have spent 11 hours inside a hide, first photographing squirrels, jays and small birds in the snow with my new Sony A1 camera, and a great lens borrowed from Stavanger foto.
After six hours, this three years old golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) came to visit us for nearly two amazing hours.
Tomorrow it will snow again, like it did when I was here on Tuesday. There's a better chance for more raptors coming down in that kind of weather, and I really look forward to another day here!

Two days ago, I enjoyed some stunning golden eagles (Aquila chrysaetos) for nearly three hours in total.
I am still a beginner at bird hide photography, but it's always nice to visit Åkset Naturfoto to practice and learn. I will go back for the weekend already, to practice and enjoy myself some more.

We have lots of snow outside now, and it's hard for the birds to find all the food I bring them, when it's starting to snow again and cover it all.
I should go out to take some photos of them when the light is nice in between the showers of snow, but in the meantime- here is a European robin (Erithacus rubecula) from the archive, on a day like today.

A male blackbird (Turdus merula), who is a regular guest at a feeding station in a forest in town.
I guess I'll meet it again tonight, when The Norwegian Ornithological Society arranges an outdoor evening there. They will be ringing and showing birds, and I will show some of my bird photos from both that place and elsewhere in the municipality.

One year ago I found a lovely blue tit family (Cyanistes caeruleus) in a neighbor's tree. This young bird waited for its parents to bring more food, and just let the fly be alone.
Actually this will be the front page photo of the next issue of The Norwegian Ornithological Society's magazine for my county. (I will also have a gannet photo on the back, many in the middle and a text about my bird interest history ツ)
