The Powder Tower is one of the original 13 city gates in Old Town, Prague. Its construction began in 1475. The tower was intended to be an attractive entrance into the city, instead of a defensive tower.

The Powder Tower is one of the original 13 city gates in Old Town, Prague. Its construction began in 1475. "The gate was built in 1475 for representational purposes and replaced the Gate of St. Ambrose (part of the Old Town fortifications that was no longer needed at the time), but it was completed only at the end of the 19th century, in a pseudo-Gothic purist style. The gate is 65 meters high, the observation deck is at a height of 44 meters and 186 steps lead to it."
