July 2. Took position here 4 P. M. and was actively engaged until night. One rifle burst and a captured 10 pounder Parrott was substituted.
July 3. Two Parrotts moved to right. The other guns engaged in firing upon the Union lines within range. About 5 P. M. aided in repelling cavalry under Brig. Gen. Farnsworth which had charged into the valley between this point and Round Top.
July 4. Occupied position near by and west of this until 6 P. M. Then withdrew from the field.

Bird gave me enough time to create Marena, but not enough time to blog about it.
(After she lays an egg she semi-abandons her nest and wanders the house aimlessly for up to a week before the cycle starts again.)
Normally I don't exercise and work on Marena on the same day, but the following day was too busy to accommodate the usual 3-4 hour block of time so I did a wee bit of hat-to-headscarf alteration post-Buns of Steel to have the piece ready for day number five.
The fifth day was the fifth night. Around midnight the next day - the day I was "too busy" to work on her - I unexpectedly found myself securing the finished khustka to Marena's head after it was absently tried on for size.
Autism's need for closure kicked in once the headscarf was in place. Instead of going to bed, which I was in the middle of doing before I decided it'd be a super great idea to see how the scarf fit, I carefully shaped a piece of locally foraged fleece into a shaggy woolen stole.
The Sabretooth stole ended up being the last and final component of Marena. I had originally planned to create a pair of black boots from a leftover glove, but once the wool was arranged over her shoulders she looked and felt done.

Bird's PMS halved my work hours yesterday so I didn't get as far as I had planned, but progress was definitely made after a 20-minute stress cry - this year's winter effigy looks very much like Marena.
In fact, Marena looked so Marena I thought it was time to adorn the effigy with the "coral" necklace I created around last year's autumnal equinox as an offering to the hibernal goddess.
(Listen, as someone who's been menstruating for nearly 33 years I feel very confident in my ability to discern PMS symptoms - birds absolutely PMS.)

10 days to draft an outfit from lost winterwear, sew the pieces into articles of clothing, create a human-shaped frame using a ritually cut larch branch, dress the humanoid stick figure in the hand-sewn outfit, and christen the completed winter effigy as Marena.
