One of Nick Agnew's images this scanned and published with his consent. It shows one of the ex-London Transport vehicles that ended up with the NBC subsidiary London Country after it had been hived off in the 1969 reorganisation and had passed to the new National Bus Company. The 'new' company and NBC hierarchy suffered somewhat with the fleet they inherited from LT and the fleet composition went through quite a variety during the 1970s.
However seen here is RML 2352, CUV 352C, a vehicle that went new in 1965 to London Country and that went to Harlow, the depot it is running from here, in 1977. It can be seen that it has the NBC corporate logo on the side and the bonnet number is no longer in LT's Johnston typeface - however the blinds still are. The bus is reversing from Weald Bridge Road into Vicarage Lane, with the Talbot pub on the left and that makes me think the new roundabout junction for the reconstructed A414 that now sits just behind the bus, is not yet constructed. You can just see the conductor on the back platform, hand up on the bell press to warn the driver of any oncoming vehicles if required, and is of a period when bus route termini frequently required reversals as I can recall.
The 339 ran from Harlow through Epping and North Weald to this point and indeed you can still frequently see RM type buses in this area as Roger Wright operates the 'modern version' of the 339 in connection with the Epping Ongar Railway.
RML 2352 ended up returning to London Transport buses in 1980 when it was overhauled, painted red and went into 'Central Area' service surving until 2004 and it is now preserved.
