Passimeter; Passimeter ticket office from Hainault Underground station, designed by Charles Holden, circa 1942
Passimeters are free-standing ticket kiosks built for Underground station booking halls. This, which is one of the smaller versions designed by Charles Holden, was installed at Hainault station on the Central line, in 1948. The green marbled lino on the lower section facade suggests that this is a post-war design, since the pre-war passimeters had a white marbled finish. Passimeters were introduced in the 1920s when some stations had their booking offices rebuilt nearer to the platform entrances. They varied a little in size and design but remained in use until the 1980s.

On this fine pandemic, impending apocalypse weekend, I'm hitting the Way-Back Machine, and digging through a few miles of 35mm negatives from before I knew what I was doing when it came to photography. Enjoy them if you can. I make no promises.
I took some low-fidelity pictures of the doomed Fox Theatre in Portland, Oregon, shortly before its demolition. I used a fast, super-grainy film to heighten the sense of decrepitude. Hopefully it worked.

The ticketing booth for our tour bus on the Yonge-Dundas Square. Our driver-guide awaits his turn to report. Since its completion in 2002, the square has hosted numerous public events, performances and art displays, establishing itself as a prominent landmark in Toronto and one of the city's prime tourist attractions. Central to the Downtown Yonge business improvement area, the square is owned by the city and is the first public square in Canada to be maintained through a public-private partnership. More notes in subsequent captions. (Toronto, Canada, Nov.2015)
