Tyrrau mawr

Tyrrau Mawr or Craig-las is a subsidiary summit of Cader Idris in the Snowdonia National Park, in Gwynedd, northwest Wales. It lies to the west of Cyfrwy, and can be climbed by taking a west bearing from the Pony Path at Rhiw Gwredydd. Its north face is a crag, known as Craig-las

Draenen Wen - Hawthorn

Hawthorns or drain gwynion ( white thorns ) in welsh growing on the exposed hillside on the north side of Cadair Idris, a rather dull and drizzly afternoon but the sun was attempting to break through the mist when this was taken. To the right is the summit of Tyrrau Mawr which was my eventual destination.

Islawr-dref

Another taken on a walk to the summit of Tyrrau Mawr west of Cader Idris back in February on what had been a rather dull afternoon weather wise but late on the light eventually broke through. It was extremely windy at the time with the wind to my back so it was not advisable to get too close to that edge, very steep drop from there.
The valley below is an area known as Islawr-dref with the hilly area of Craig y Castell rising behind with Dolgellau and Llanelltyd beyond. The prominent mountain left in the background is Y Garn which lies just off the Rhinogydd ridge to the west or left out of image here. On the extreme right is Rhobell Fawr.

Llynnoedd Cregennan

Some welcome late afternoon light.
Taken in early February this year from the summit of Tyrrau Mawr on the ridge west of Cader Idris. It was very cold and extremely windy on the top and up to this point had been very dull weather wise. Looking approx NW to the lakes of Llynnau Cregennan beautifully located at the foot of Pared y Cefn-hir high up above the Mawddach estuary. The ridge in the background rises from the sea at Abermaw (Barmouth) and continues unbroken northwards over the rugged Rhinogydd mountains. Barmouth bridge is visible at the mouth of the estuary, this serves as a foot bridge as well as carrying the Cambrian Coast Railway line.

Llyn Cyri

I hope your all keeping well during this strange and troubling time.
This was taken early February late in the afternoon from the summit of Tyrrau Mawr west of Cadair Idris. From here the ridge continues over Craig-y-llyn (rock/crag of the lake) before turning northwards to Braich Ddu (the black arm) centre with the small lake of Llyn Cyri in the cwm below.
It had been a dull overcast and very windy afternoon but suddenly as I approached the summit the dark clouds started to part towards the west and north to provide some welcome light.

Craig-y-llyn

Taken late afternoon close to sunset while descending from Tyrrau Mawr west of Cadair Idris. It had been a dull cold and windy afternoon but the clouds eventually parted to light up the windswept grasses. Tyrrau Mawr is up to the right out of image while Craig-y-llyn further west along the ridge is left of centre.

Tyrrau Mawr

This is the first of two b&w images today, this taken from the old Ffordd Porthmyn ( Drovers Road ) to the north of Llyn Gwernan not far from the market town of Dolgellau, Gwynedd. It was taken looking west in the late afternoon after heavy rain hence the very wet track. On the left is the summit of Tyrrau Mawr 661m (meaning big towers) on the ridge west of Cadair Idris, on the extreme right is the superb small mountain of Pared y Cefn-hir 383m that rises from the beautiful Llynnau Cregennen. (pared meaning a "partition wall or wall" and cefn-hir "long ridge").
