An image taken up the North East at Sunderland, this is the wonderfully shaped Pier out to Roker Lighthouse.
This trip we had encountered what could only be described as 'bleak' conditions at the very best, but those sort of conditions actually help with this kind of image in keeping it highly minimal.
I'd only shot this location once before and wasn't 100% happy with the image due the amount of people coming and going along the Pier, I neededn't have worried about this time time though as the entire thing was fenced off due to some railings having been destreoyed in the recent storms it was obviously deemed unsafe until they are repaired.
I think I must have swapped shooting spots about 4 or 5 times to try and get this how I wanted it, with this being the end result, about 13 stops of filtration saw me coming out with an exposure time of 186 seconds with the histogram touching the right side, the long exposure, sea fog, and general gloom helping to create a sense of real isolation with the Pier and it's quirky red striped Lighthouse.
