A Methodist church's long list of years: 1812, 1825, 1838, 1864, 1900. by Tim Kiser

A Methodist church's long list of years: 1812, 1825, 1838, 1864, 1900.

In the old days the Sunday school teachers would make the kids memorize and recite the list of years. No I'm just kidding, I don't know anything about it.

This date stone is at First United Methodist Church in Troy, Ohio. The church has a website, but as of December 2023 the website lacks information about the history of the church, and there is no explanation of the significance of the years. Maybe everybody forgot what happened!

Goshen Indiana - South Side Soda Shop - Landdmark by Bill Badzo

Goshen Indiana - South Side Soda Shop - Landdmark

Built in the early 1900s the building was initially opened as a grocery store in 1910. In the 1940s the original Bastian Blessings soda fountain was installed where it still remains, serving sodas, shakes, malts, and floats. The installation of the soda fountain initiated the transformation from grocery store, bus stop and post office to a soda shop.

In 1985 restoration began and the South Side Soda Shop was re-opened in January of 1986. Eight years later the dining car was added to the existing building to provide additional seating as well as another look at fifties-style dining. The South Side Soda Shop continues the tradition of a fifties diner, offering home cooked recipes with a friendly face.

Historical doorway and windows.

Admire the symmetricality. The two windows nearest the doorway mirror one another in their respective proportions of brick and cinderblock fill-up.

According to the people of the Macon/Bibb County Board of Assessors the bldg is from circa 1900. I love to learn!

As of February 2017 the building had a pink-colored architectural slipcover. It is seen here undergoing a renovation as part of the "Crescent Corners" phase of the "Central City Commons" project. It is a gentrification.

Brown fan building with gray television and blue trash in Ohio.

On hot Ohio nights in July and August I park my bed on the other side of the fan and I turn it on. The noise purrs me to sleep as the breeze blows over me. Beforehand I flip closed the dumpster cover on my way into the building.

The building is said to have been erected in the year 1900 and remodeled in 1965. Will you believe it!

The Tucker County Courthouse!, classic historic smalltown county courthouse, with clocktower and ferris wheel.

To enjoy this you have to set aside your natural suspicions of local governments in the rural areas of the U.S., riddled as they are with corrupt good-old-boys' networks and lawless cops, etc. Just think about the architecture.
