This hotel is on the site of a former hotel known as the Commercial Hotel, which was licensed from 1868 and burnt down in 1903.

A two storey rectangular building with high parapet wall (containing inscription Hotel Alexander) with skillion roof behind and sloping side brick walls. Symmetrical at front with 4-pane windows on 1st floor with central door leading to a 2 storey "Juliet balcony". An enclosed single storey bullnose verandah is located along the street wall alignment."
