In Indiana, a honeylocust and some ornamental shrubs were an idea for a downtown oasis at a streetcorner in a cars area.

When I entered the oasis I no longer noticed all the cars everywhere.

From 1924 came a façade of white terracotta to Ottumwa, Iowa: Ornate, Neoclassical.

Did the façade come to Ottumwa from 1924, or was it built in Ottumwa in 1924, idk idc.

You know you're in Ottumwa when you see a circa-2018 Chevy Equinox, a 2004 Honda Civic, a 2011 Toyota Camry, and a 2014 Buick Enclave, all lined up side-by-side in angled parking spaces.

I found you another 1911. This one's a spectacular office building in Topeka.

Here was the New England Building, nowadays the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services. The building's listing in the Kansas Historic Resources Inventory mentions its "opaque transoms" but does not speculate as to whether they've always been salmon-colored.

It was funny to look at the yellowish-brown bricks and say "let's pair that with panels of salmon."

By "funny" I don't mean to say I dislike it.

Looking South On N. Yates St., Ashland, Illinois

A view looking south from midway in the 200 block of N. Yates St. in downtown Ashland. N. Yates and W. Editor Streets are the two main commercial streets in the Village of Ashland. While many of the old commercial buildings on N. Yates St. still stand, most have seen their facades significantly modified. Note the diagonal parking in the center of the 200 block. The grain tank on the left is part of the RPA Farmers Co-Op Grain Elevator complex.

This west central Illinois community had a population of 1,137 at the 2020 census, making it the third largest population center in Cass County behind Beardstown and Virginia, the county seat.

A building from the early 1920s is funny-looking because of the sparsity and small size of its upstairs windows.

ACCORDING TO MY ANALYSIS of Jamestown city directories in the "Ancestry Library Edition" database, the building is from sometime between 1920 and 1922:

• Nothing is listed at this address (303 Lafayette) in the 1920 directory.
• It is listed in the 1922 directory as "Rappole & Robbins Inc, whol [wholesale] automotive equip."

I AM PROUD OF MY ANALYSIS.
