After lunch we went to the Bibi-Khanym Mosque. In the courtyard outside the partially restored mosque is a glassed in giant book on a stone stand. You can snatch a glimpse of both behind the woman cleaning the inside of the enclosure. I wasn't able to get a decent shot of the whole stand & book in the case.

The Konstantine Eristavi Street area in Tbilisi, Georgia, is located in a historic and vibrant part of the city, close to some of the city’s most important cultural and religious landmarks, including the impressive Sameba Cathedral. The area offers a mix of local culture, everyday life and an authentic shopping experience in the small shops and markets. Sameba Cathedral, just a few minutes’ walk from Konstantine Eristavi Street, is one of the largest Orthodox cathedrals in the world and an important symbol of Tbilisi. This architectural masterpiece dominates the city skyline, attracting tourists and pilgrims alike. Around Konstantine Eristavi Street and the nearby streets, you’ll find a variety of small shops that capture the essence of everyday life in Tbilisi. Many of these shops are family-run businesses, selling everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to handmade souvenirs and traditional Georgian products. The area has a more local feel than the touristy areas in the old town, making it an interesting place to experience authentic Tbilisi. There are also small markets and street vendors in the area. Here you can find typical Georgian products such as fresh bread, spices, cheeses and wine, as well as clothes and household items. The atmosphere in the markets is busy and lively, with vendors offering their wares and customers haggling over prices. It is an ideal place to get in touch with the locals and learn more about their culture and customs. The area around Konstantine Eristavi Street has a mix of old and new buildings. Some streets are narrow and cobbled, giving a sense of historic charm, while others are more modern and wider. The proximity of the cathedral creates a peaceful, almost spiritual atmosphere, in contrast to the hustle and bustle of the markets and shops.
In Tbilisi, loggias, conservatories and verandas are a common sight, especially in the older parts of the city. These enclosed balconies are often beautifully decorated and offer a unique way to enjoy the view of the city and its surroundings while being protected from the elements. Many of these loggias have a traditional architectural style, with colorful glass panels and sometimes wood carvings, which add to the charm of the buildings. They often serve as an additional living space, where residents can relax, tend to plants or enjoy a meal with a view. These elements make the enclosed balconies in Tbilisi a special and recognizable aspect of the city's architecture. In Georgian, it can also be specifically referred to as "balkoni" (ბალკონი), which simply means "balcony".
The full window enclosure on the Puget Lady cabin cruiser reminded me of places we stayed in Scotland that had a glassed in conservatory. It seems like a nice touch for boats cruising in the northwest coast weather.
Puget Lady was designed by Ed Monk, Sr. and built in 1941 by Tregonning Boat Co. in Shilshole, WA. She was sold in 1953 and moved to the Queen City Yacht club in Portage Bay, Seattle, where she moored under cover for over 35 years. They re-named her Puget Lady, re-powered with a surplus WWII Detroit 6-71 diesel motor and installed an Ed Monk, Sr. designed fly-bridge and aft cockpit cover. In recent times Puget Lady has cruised extensively throughout Puget Sound, B.C Coast, Vancouver Island and numerous voyages to S.E. Alaska.

The “Beatnik Bandit” is a legendary custom car built by Ed “Big Daddy” Roth in 1961. It’s a standout piece in the world of custom cars and hot rods, known for its unique design and innovative features. It was not only a show car, but it was also immortalized as a model car kit by Revell and later as one of the first Hot Wheels.
The car was built on a shortened 1950 Oldsmobile chassis and features a handmade fiberglass body. One of its most distinctive elements is the “bubble top” canopy which gives it a space-age look. It’s powered by an Oldsmobile 303 Cl, OHV V-8 engine, equipped with a GMC supercharger. The interior is custom crafted with pearl white vinyl upholstery, originally done by Eddie Martinez.
The Beatnik Bandit is listed as National Historic Vehicle Register No. 35 and is currently part of the “Cars of the Capital” exhibition on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., where it is displayed in a glass enclosure. The car is owned by the National Automobile Museum in Reno, Nevada. Ed Roth’s creativity and artistic vision made the Beatnik Bandit a timeless piece of automotive history.

This poor Sugar Glider looks woefully out of place in the reptilarium in the Malacca/ Melaka zoo. Maybe this poor animal needed the cool, dark environment of the reptile house, but I was left wondering if instinct scared the animal with the deadly reptiles around. At any rate, the Sugar Glider is meant to fly- ok, glide- between trees, so how would it feel confined to a tiny box in a zoo? The Sugar Glider is a small, omnivorous, arboreal, and nocturnal gliding possum. The common name refers to its predilection for sugary foods such as sap and nectar and its ability to glide through the air, much like a Flying Squirrel. Notes about the Malacca/ Melaka zoo appeared earlier in this album. (see previous pictures). (Malacca/ Melaka, Malaysia, Sept. 2023) PS: Pardon the reflection of my iPhone on the glass- the lighting was very low inside the reptilarium, and with this animal stuck into a remote corner of his tiny glass case, this was the best view I could get.
Signage about the Sugar Glider you saw earlier in this album (see previous picture). The Sugar Glider is a small, omnivorous, arboreal, and nocturnal gliding possum. The sign is fairly self explanatory if viewed in full screen or expanded mode, so I will save you further commentary. Notes about the Malacca/ Melaka zoo appeared earlier in this album. Signage about the Ring Tailed Lemur displayed in his enclosure. There were a couple of glass enclosures close to the entrance/ exit inside the Malacca/ Melaka zoo. Ring Tailed Lemurs are endemic to Madagascar. They are one among several species of Lemur endemic to that country. With a life span of around 20 years, Ring Tailed Lemurs are basically primates and largely vegetarians. This sign is fairly self explanatory if viewed in full screen or expanded mode, so I will save you further commentary. Notes about the Malacca/ Melaka zoo appeared earlier in this album. There were a couple of glass enclosures close to the entrance/ exit inside the Malacca/ Melaka zoo. The sign says that this is the enclosure for the Albino Ferret. There was no sign of the Albino Ferret- I saw a mouse instead, which had probably found a secret entrance into the Ferret enclosure so that he could steal the Ferret's food. The sign for the Albino Ferret is self explanatory if viewed in full screen or expanded mode, so I will save you further commentary. A Ring Tailed Lemur tucks into his meal of fruit and leaves. I had taken another picture of this animal as it was surveying his meal, but decided to feature this image as it is a bit of an action shot, so to speak.
