Corner of Bourke and King Streets, Melbourne, Victoria

A photo I took pretty quickly while about to cross this intersection. Pretty wide angle as you can see and taken on a balmy but slightly hazy and humid autumn afternoon.

Melbourne, Australia - St.Kilda

Yachts at their berths in St.Kilda Harbour.
The harbour is situated behind the breakwater, which is home to a colony of Little Penguins. St Kilda Pier Breakwater is the closest place to view penguins near the CBD. The pier also provides a great spot for fishing and for taking photographs of the yachts with the Melbourne skyline in the background.

Melbourne Skyline taken from St. Kilda Pier.
A beautiful day after another few days of heat. The photograph was taken from the new St. Kilda Pier, the old one having suffered a devastating fire.

Melbourne city skyline taken from Ruckers Hill, Northcote early this morning. Because of the heat, I went for a very early morning walk and going out at that hour clearly has its rewards 😊

The little bird

I didn't have my zoom lens on but I liked the contrasting size of the Grebe against the dinghys on the left and the yachts and skyscrapers in the distance. It is amazing how the wildlife manages to survive amongst the built environment and habitat pollution.

NR85 and NR39.
Another grey morning in Melbourne as locomotives NR85 and NR39 shunt their intermodal train at Appleton Dock. With daylight saving, grey skies are common in the morning. Later in the day, the clouds break up and the temperature rises. Today, it was a mild afternoon, with the threat of extreme temperatures only a couple of days away.

It had been a stormy and quite wet day prior to taking this and conditions were quite warm and humid producing the hazy light in this photo which is slightly cropped to remove a minor distracting element. .

I was also trying out a new telescopic lens which has quite a range from wide angle to long distance. It is not a top shelf one but is more of a journeyman lens which will be very handy for every day photography when travelling and for those quick grabs.
