Gothic arches, characterized by their pointed apex, served a crucial dual role in Gothic architecture: structural support and aesthetic appeal. Structurally, they distributed weight more efficiently than rounded arches, allowing for taller structures and thinner walls, which in turn enabled the incorporation of large windows, which were almost as much of a pain in the caboose to clean as the arches.
