The very moment of sunset at the Church of England parish church of All Saints, in the village of All Cannings (pop. 590) in Wiltshire’s picturesque Vale of Pewsey.

All Saints, know as St Anne until around 1928, took its present form in the 14th and 15th centuries on the site of a 12th Century church on the same site. The three-stage central tower is mid-15th century and probably replaced an earlier one, and has a square stair-tower at its northeast corner.

The chancel was rebuilt in 1678 and again in 1868–9, this time in Bath stone on a slightly narrower plan, to designs of Henry Weaver of Devizes, then restored in Victorian times.

This house on the corner of East Street at Lacock has a little plaque with 'The Chamberlain's House' on it. When I looked for some history for this house I discovered that it apparently belonged to someone named Joseph Chamberlain, a carter, who was employed for twenty-three years in that capacity at the George Inn. He and his family are also listed in the 1871 census. He definitely wasn't Chamberlain at the Abbey, which is I think is the inference of the plaque and is also what tourists are told on tours and in some guide books for the local area. Also, I came across information that said that Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain lived in this house, again this isn't true, Neville Chamberlain was born in Birmingham and lived there for most of his life and was Lord Mayor of Birmingham in 1915. The confusion there may have arisen as Neville's father's name was Joseph.

Apparently about 80% of the UKs wild Snakeshead fritillary are to be found in this one meadow. Around 1.25 million plants. Its not been farmed in a modern way for over 400 years.
