Glen Lyon, Scotland

Let's go back to daylight here for a little bit. Here is a recent picture I made in Glen Lyon, Perthshire. This is the longest enclosed glen in Scotland and runs for 34 miles. Deep in the heart of Glen Lyon, the 'Praying Hands' also known as Fionn's Rock, is a mysterious rock formation consisting of two huge stones that rise together as if they were hands in prayer.

I made this picture with a camera that came out in 2005. I love using a mixture of new and old cameras to create images that inspire.

Proving that something as simple as a D200 from 2005 can make great pictures. The colours are sublime and the RAW files benefit from modern lightroom / photoshop processing.

La lumière est voilée, filtrée, presque irréelle – une forme inversée de clarté.
☁️ La structure nuageuse évoque une aile, un souffle, un dragon céleste.
Les contours sont déchirés comme des filaments d’encre dans l’eau.
La scène semble peinte, hors du temps, entre nature et abstraction.

🎨 Les couleurs : bleu pétrole profond, rose pâle irisé, blanc cendré et reflets violacés.
Cette palette n’est pas réaliste – elle est visionnaire.
Le bleu évoque la profondeur du mental,
le rose la tendresse cachée dans l’intensité solaire,
le blanc la transcendance,
et les reflets pourpres la transformation spirituelle.

🔮 Symboliquement, cette image est un passage.
L’éclipse, en tant que phénomène, a toujours été perçue comme une suspension du réel,
un point de bascule entre deux états du monde –
le visible et l’invisible, la lumière et son repli, la conscience et sa frontière.

️️ Le bâtiment sombre en bas à droite ancre la composition dans le terrestre.
Il rappelle que toute contemplation du ciel s’effectue toujours à partir d’un lieu, d’un corps, d’une ombre.

Cotton rounds drift high, cirrus thin, skycanvas bright.
Gray anvils loom, cumulonimbus' might, stormy sight.
Puffy piles bloom, cumulus soft, daydream flight.
Whisps like feathers strewn, altocumulus light, ethereal white.
Flat sheets spread wide, stratus gray, overcast tide.
Each form defined, cloudshapes dance, weather's guide.

Really happy with this frame. I was feeling like I wasn't going to get anything worth shooting with a very muted sunset when I started to see this cloud formation begin over the ridge of this basalt ridge & it helped me get my wheels turning for I & II which was shot 20 minutes later or so.

The weather looked threatening as we managed to leave the upper mountains just in time to get back to the car in Ortisei. While I explained the weather to the children, we safely waited out the storm in the car. An exciting day that was allowed to end excitingly.

A breathtaking view of towering cumulus clouds rising over a lush mountain landscape. The contrast between the green valley, rugged peaks, and dramatic sky creates a scene full of depth, power, and tranquility—a perfect moment capturing nature’s grandeur.

A band of rain showers passes over Charlotte Amalie, the historical capital of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Aboard the ship seen on the left side of the photo, "the jailer man and sailor Sam were searching everyone." FYI the searchers never did find any band members ... and I doubt they found any virgins :) Thanks for viewing!

When I approached this iconic bridge, I wasn't interested in capturing another typical postcard shot. Instead, I wanted to reveal its soul through the natural interplay of fog, light, and architectural geometry. By choosing black and white, I stripped away the distractions of color to focus on the ethereal quality of the scene. The fog wasn't an obstacle - it was my ally in creating mystery and depth. I carefully composed the frame to emphasize both the bridge's commanding presence through its nearest tower and its graceful disappearance into the mist. The small sailboat was a deliberate inclusion, serving as both a scale reference and a human element in this industrial landscape. I wanted to maintain the natural texture of the water and the definition in the clouds, preserving the authentic mood of the moment. My goal was to transform this familiar landmark into something more atmospheric and emotional - a meditation on the relationship between human engineering and natural elements. The resulting image speaks more to feeling than fact, suggesting rather than showing, and inviting the viewer to complete the journey into the fog with their imagination.
