Penn Central ex New Haven Railroad EMD F-9's are stopped with a westbound passenger train at a station platform on a rainy night in Bridgeport, Connecticut, early 1969. In this scene you really get to see much of the catenary system and is supports. The lead locomotive's train steam line connection pipe is leaking in a big way as seen by the water vapor escaping toward the platform area.

New Haven Railroad Westinghouse EP-2 class motor 0307 is seen setting off a wooden Express Refrigerator car on an eastbound connected siding at the station in Stamford, Connecticut, ca late 1930's. Two employees are standing by the motor and Express Refrigerator car to perform the uncoupling. If you notice on the cab roof just over the engineers position there is a large brass whistle along with a large bell. You can see the engineer looking back for the positioning of the car and the uncoupling. Over the motor you can see the triangular designed catenary that is used from Stamford for a distance to the west in this portion of the electrified railroad. It was a typical on-going operational practice to drop off Express Refrigerator boxcars or REA-Baggage cars on the sidings at the Stamford station. Some engineers stated that the EP-2 class motors were among the smoothest riding motors on the railroad.

The first heavyweight baggage car may be a Lackawanna Railway car, however; by this date it would be the Erie Lackawanna Railway. the two center tracks that are divided by a fence in the station platform area are the express track that by-pass the station. The famous triangular catenary is used in this area and farther on to the West. The tracks seen to far left are for MUTs operating in commuter service to New York City. Notice the short round end blade semaphore signals on the bridge.

New Haven Railroad EP-3b class motor 0351 leads a westbound 9 car passenger train into a station platform at Stamford, Connecticut, 4-7-1946. This train consist is made up of heavyweight coaches, except for one Osgood-Bradley Pullman lightweight coach with full skirts remaining. All three tracks to the left of the platform serve the New Canaan Branch. Notice the distinctive installed triangular catenary at this location. The EP-3 motor has the sort of rare pin stripe paint scheme, but it is obscured along the sides due to road grime. Interesting too is the fact that the center carbody window has been filled in and that the brass chime air whistle has been replaced by an air horn. The swing bells on these motors received air clappers. These motors had their original air cooled main transformer replaced by a new main transformer that used pyranol and that ended the snow and rain problems affecting the original transformers. The new transformers also increased the continuous tractive effort. Roller bearing were also applied to all motor axles. The 0351, 351 after 1950, was the first motor of the class to be condemned in 1959.

New Haven Railroad GE EP-4 motor 361, is seen with a passenger train arriving at a platform, while the jointed operated PRR-NHRR Senator is on a platform track heading in the opposite direction at Stamford, 1955. With the Senator in operation you could see fairly new Budd passenger cars operating on the New Haven Railroad. As typical New Haven Railroad practice there is a hairpin fence alongside both platform tracks to seperate the two center express tracks.

New Haven Railroad TOFC within a manifest freight train is seen at an uknown location in the electrified zone, 7-1964. New Haven Railroad Pullman Standard stainless steel MUT is seen with passengers preparing to board on a station express track, with the conductor selecting the stopping position, at a location west of Stamford 1959. Note the triangular catenary in this scene and the good load of passengers. New Haven Railroad westbound standard heavyweight 6 car round roof MUT at the station platform in Stamford, Connecticut, mid 1950's. MUT trailer 4264 is bringing up the end of the train, and it was built by Osgood-Bradley (Pullman) in 1926. These round roof commuter MUT's feature 2-3 seating. It appears that two employees are standing at the right or east end of the platform. On this winter day it appears that the snow is old by the dirt, oil and grease built up in it along the tracks. Really do like the old hairpin or paper clip fence that seperates the express tracks from the platform tracks. The very distinctive New Haven Railroad's triangular catenary presents itself well in this photo. If you wish to see more photo detail, just click on the image one or two times and it will enlarge.
