Colas liveried 56049 "Robin of Templecombe" worked today's final inbound tank working onto Preston Docks and potentially brought down the curtain of freight into the Docks. Seen crossing Strand Road she is seen passing a sizeable gallery of onlookers on the inbound working. - 20/01/2025
Probably the most photographed loco in the land today. The sad sight of 56049 hauling probably the last West Bound service of The Haverton-Preston Docks Bitumen Tanks. This being unique as the tanks were always loaded going in this direction, but were being taken into Preston Docks for cleaning I'm told.

The rare occurrence of a pair of DCR 31s working a Chaddeston to Cardiff Tidal scrap empty resulted in my going for this shot at Purton, overlooking the Severn. The view is from the garden of 'Purton Manor' where, though I had at one time known the owner, by 2012 the property had changed hands. Subsequently, the new owners were treated to me asking permission for myself, and other photographers to pitch up and take a picture! Happily these very decent people were accommodating!
This service subsequently failed at Didcot.

Running around an hour late, this is two tone green 47812 D1916) as it enters Gloucester Station with 6Z31 1331 from Cardiff Tidal Sidings to Chaddesden. 24th July 2012.
6Z31 Nuneaton - Kings Norton, the last test run before the 20s headed north with the Drain Train. This shot would just about have been possible with a pole, but the drone allowed fine adjustment of position to get the most broom in the foreground.
GB Railfreight Class 60 No. 60076 "Dunbar" passes Heyrod as it works the 6Z31 09:30 Drax to Liverpool Biomass Terminal empty biomass hoppers on 25th June 2022.
Just avoiding a worrying patch of shadow, 31190/D5613 hauling the Swedish Railvac as a Weymouth Jersey Sidings to Bescot move is seen at the Broughton Hayes road bridge in Bath. At the time 31190 was in it's 53rd year and part of the DCR 's operation, it is currently to be found at home in Devon on the Plym Valley Railway.
Funny how "the Swedish" got attached to the Railvac on it's travels around the UK, a similar thing happened to Meatballs, Chefs and Au Pairs.
6Z31 Crewe - Eastleigh, three PFA flats for some fettling at the works. The PFAs are used by DRS for carrying the containers of low level waste from Sellafield to Drigg. The 68 has recently been names 'Rail Riders' with the nice red nameplate and circular sticky on the front.

A bit of a front three quarters, loco in your face kind of a shot.
GB Railfreight 60076 "Dunbar", still in Colas livery hauls 6Z31 09:30 Drax - Liverpool empty Biomass train along the Manchester Piccadilly to Oxford Road corridor. This service was diverted onto the open route via Huddersfield / Manchester Piccadilly during the strike instead of the usual Calder Valley route.
The usual routes of these trains are interesting. Many go direct Liverpool - Earlstown - Manchester Victoria - Calder Valley taking 3.5hrs or so from Liverpool to Drax. Some however divert at Earlstown and go Warrington - Acton Bridge - Northwich - Stockport - Denton - Ashton Moss and rejoin the "quick" route at Thorpes bridge junction. This little diversion can add about 2.5hrs to the journey, giving Liverpool - Drax times of 6hrs or so.
This surely can't be for pathing through Victoria. 6E36 leaves Liverpool just after 2am and does this, also it seems an expensive way to keep up route knowledge if several trains a day do this.
As the clouds roll in, DCRail Freight liveried Class 60, No.60046 'William Wilberforce' is captured hurrying through Eastrea (between March and Whittlesea) leading a uniformed rake of blue VTG 'JNA' box wagons forming 6Z31, the 12:15 Brandon Down Sidings to Chaddesden Sidings service.
Class 66 no. 66607 approaches the footbridge at Great Bowden with 6Z31 Elstow-Tunstead on 14 May 2021.
