Aspinall 3F on Sowerby Bridge

On 17 June 1962 Aspinall 3F 52515 is stabled on its home shed Sowerby Bridge (56E). The loco spent much of its later years in the West Yorkshire area at Low Moor and Mirfield. Built at Horwich works in 1906, the loco was withdrawn in December 1962 after a working life of over 56 years.

Ex-Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Aspinall 0-6-0 52322 and Barton Wright 0-6-0ST 11456 leaving Ropley station, during the Mid-Hants Railway gala in April 2025.
52332 entered service in 1895, and was withdrawn by BR in 1960, and purchased privately for preservation.. It was restored to steam again in 1982, and moved to the East Lancs Railway in 1995, where it completed its latest overhaul in 2021..
11456 entered service in 1881, and was rebuilt as a saddle-tank, as seen here, in 1896.. It was sold off by the LMS in 1937 to a Lancashire colliery, and later passed to the nationalised NCB.. It was purchased for preservation in 1967, and returned to steam at the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway in 1972. After further overhaul in 1979/80 it took part in the ‘Rocket 150’ cavalcade at Rainhill in May 1980:

The loco was then taken out of service in 1982, and stored for a time...
It moved to the East Lancs Railway in 2016, and underwent a comprehensive overhaul – including the provision of a ‘correct’ chimney, and repair to a cracked frame - and returned to steam in 2020.

Aspinall No.52322

19th October 2018. L&Y Class 27 0-6-0 No.52322 looks in good form as she storms away from Ramsbottom with a Bury to Rawtenstall service. The East Lancashire Railway had an intensive timetable as they were holding their annual Autumn Steam Gala. There were 448 engines of this class built between 1889 and 1917 but sadly No.52322 is the only one which has survived into preservation.
