Wrought Iron Bracket and Bay Window

A detail of the "Alte Färberei" in Michelstadt, in my previous photo: the window that protrudes from the façade. I like those half-timbered houses, and in this case, the red colour used on the timber. I also noticed the wrought-iron sign holder on the house on the opposite side of the street, so I included that in the photo as well.

A Dyeing Plant (please read)

Michelstadt is a historic town in the Odenwald region. We walked through the beautiful "Altstadt", the old town. This was the "Alte Färberei", the old dyeing plant (to avoid misunderstanding: a factory where textile materials were dyed = coloured). You can also call it a dye-works.
This half-timbered house was built in 1620.

Loppem Castle

It was the first time I saw the Castle of Loppem, near Bruges, Belgium, from this side. We'd gone for a walk instead of just cycling past it and admiring the view over the moat. The mansion was built between 1859 and 1862 for Baron Charles van Caloen and his family. It is in the Gothic Revival style, of which it is considered a masterpiece. Both the romantic castle and the grounds are open to the public. And it even has a maze to get lost in ...

Postbox at Nailsworth

In Nailsworth, not far from Stroud in the Cotswolds, we made a walk up Butcher Hills Lane, where there is a bright postbox at the junction with Brewery Lane. Under a crown, the postbox bears the initials GR and the Roman figure V between these initials. This means the postbox was erected during the reign of King George the Fifth, between 1910 and 1936. A postbox with a respectable age!

... and the Rectory by Marit Buelens

... and the Rectory

The rectory and the church of Shipton Moyne are very close to each other, which is only logical: the rector (or the vicar) only has to walk a short distance to reach his 'workplace': the church.
I found the house quite impressive and the garden very beautiful - as most gardens in Shipton Moyne! I assume the huge tree is a Cedar.

Athelstan Museum (please read) by Marit Buelens

Athelstan Museum (please read)

I'm not going to make a habit of giving touristic information about every place I've visited, but I'd like to make an exception for Malmesbury and its local history museum, the Athelstan Museum. A volunteer gave us interesting information about the Malmesbury Coin Hoard, a collection of nearly 1,300 Roman coins which were found in a field, cleaned, and are now on display.
Other things I liked in Malmesbury were the Abbey with the tomb of King Athelstan (the first King of England), the High Street, the weavers cottages throughout the town, the old silk mills, the Market Cross, and the small waterfall at the long-term Station Road car park. There are photos of several of these places in my stream, but not of all as some (like the tomb) are in places where they are hard to capture, plus I mainly want to post landscapes and flowers.
I would have liked to visit Abbey House Gardens but they are now open to the public on the second Saturday of each month only.

Merdingen: Haus Saladin

This beautiful half-timbered house in Merdingen dates from 1666. It is considered to be the best example of ancient half-timbered houses on the Tuniberg.

Riquewihr

Full of beautiful houses but too touristy for my liking ... I was glad I could take this shot with just a minimum of people in view.
